Om Speaks: Cisco's Promise of Broadband is Here -- Next Year's Video Revolution will be About a Faster Network in the U.S.

It was great to see Om Malik earlier this month in San Francisco at the world headquarters of GigaOM, the increasingly influential blog about technology. I've known Om Malik for nearly 10 years through his work at Forbes, Red Herring and Business 2.0. He has been covering broadband as deeply as anyone. He thinks it's pretty cool that the promise made by Cisco in 1996 of a fast Internet has become a reality. He says the next big revolution in video will happen next year when the broadband connection speed increases in the U.S. He notes that high quality online video consumption is on the rise in countries with faster connectivity, such as France, Korea and Japan. For all of us following innovations in this online video space, I suggest you subscribe to Om's latest offshoot NewTeeVee. Congrats Om, on a great year -- leaving Business 2.0 and making GigaOM a such successful and influential business. See this video on Beet.TV: http://www.beet.tv/2006/12/om_speaks_promi.html

GigaOM's NewTeeVee Relaunched with Expandable Video Players -- Traffic Is Doubling Monthly at the Essential Industry Blog

GigaOM's NewTeeVee Relaunched with Expandable Video Players -- Traffic Is Doubling Monthly at the Essential Industry Blog

Om Malik is a visionary business journalist who founded the influential tech blog GigaOm. He is one of the leading observers of broadband -- he covered this and related beats as well as anyone during his years at Forbes, Red Herring and Business 2.0 Om is really busy these days -- breaking news and offering insight. Plus he's spinning-off tech verticals from GigaOM about video games and workplace issue. One of the most successful spinoffs is NewTeeVee, the blog about the online video industry and culture. Yesterday, my colleague David Kavanaugh visited the headquarters of GigaOM, located in a converted pier on San Francisco Bay. David spoke with Om and Liz Gannes, the editor of NewTeeVee. NewTeeVee unveiled a new redesign on Friday. It features a horizontal strip of video players across the top of the page. Since NewTeeVee is about video, it makes a lot of sense to showcase videos in this way. Congrats Om, Liz, Paul, Jackson and the design team. USA Today: TechCrunch May Become More Influential than the San Jose Mercury News

USA Today: TechCrunch May Become More Influential than the San Jose Mercury News

from bubblicious on July 05, 2007
Duration: 144
Quite a glowing double profile of TechCrunch's Michael Arrington and Om Malik of GigaOM in Wednesday's USA Today by Michelle Kessler. These dudes are visionaries who have pioneered successful new, valuable media businesses by their bootstraps and through really hard work. Arrington told USA Today that they work so hard, he and OM have given up drinking -- and they often post through night. Yup, it ain't easy! Arrington says that his site is grossing $200,000 per month and is quite profitable. USA Today says the site has a million readers. Kessler writes that the blog could become as influential as the Merc: TechCrunch's impact could soon be as great as Silicon Valley's major newspaper, The San Jose Mercury News, says Paul Gillin, author of blog guide The New Influencers. "It's one of the first things I read every day," says David Cowan, a venture capitalist for Bessemer Venture Partners. "It's hard to describe the extent to which I rely on TechCrunch." Their work is impressive and it's wonderful to get this kind of write-up. I've posted my interviews with Om and Michael below. Michael's comments on the future of traditional media vs bloggging is worth a watch. See this video on Beet.TV: http://www.beet.tv/2007/06/techcrunch-may-.html
