Greetings to all I have before you last week s edition of the show, featuring a great cross section of fresh new music from here, there and everywhere. It s up a bit late, but better later than never so enjoy the show. For now, it s time to bid you adieu. Being that I m on a bit of an overload, it s time to start to put a few things to bed and get some other things in place. To that end, I find it best to put the show on hold until September. Believe it or not, it does take more than just simply playing good music. I m very dedicated to what I do, and I believe in the power of touching others through music in my own way. I have a desire to do it 100 percent, or not at all. And at least for the next six weeks or so, it s time to put 100 percent into other things for now. Fear not, because the show will return as strong as ever. If all does work out, I hope to have some new things in place. No promises, but I think that I may get away with some surprise podcasts that will feature all-new music during my hiatus. The good music seems to never stop coming, and I m very grateful for that. I wouldn t like it to pile up and fall by the waste side, so I ll find ways to incorporate them. Thanks for those of you leaving feedback on the site, and for sending me nice messages via Facebook or email. It s a privilege, and so long as good music keeps being made I will continue to do my best to share them with you. Also, big thanks to the labels, artists and producers, the promoters, and most of all to the fans. Catch you on the other side come September. Now that the Halfway Rewind Special is behind us, it s time to dive into new music territory. The show starts off with more jazz than usual, but trust me when I say that it s a great stretch of jazz for you to savor. Of course, other styles and blends are covered as well. One correction I should point out as you re listening to the show. I ve erroneously announced a Natalie Walker track. In fact, the tune I Decided (King Britt FiveSix Mix) was from Solange. That s all, for now. Enjoy the show; back atcha this week! This week presents one of my favorite shows of the year. It s the half way mark of 2008, and it s time to look back and pick out those albums presented on the show that I recommend to you, the selective and picky music consumer. There s an overload of music in the world these days, thanks in large part to the advent of digital downloads, legal and otherwise. If you re like many a music fan, you ve been sick and tired of being spoonfed crappy music. I do my best to be one of the filters, bringing you music that I feel holds up over time. Mind you, it s only a tiny spectrum of great music in the world, but one can only focus on so much in a two-hour span each week. It s best if shows are self-contained in a niche. In the case of Urban Landscapes, it s jazzy and soulful club culture. But not just any kind of soul, and not just any kind of jazz. You know this, you recognize this, and you re feeling the goods. Being overwhelmed and missing out is never a good thing. So time to catch you up on the music that can potentially slip between the cracks. It s the Halfway Rewind Special, presented to you in two parts. The first week this week s show focuses on the albums, while next week s show (the second part) wil hone in on the singles and EP s. One of the most important criteria I look at when picking albums is that I need to listen to the whole album. It can be challenging at times when music stacks up in the queue. Somehow, though, it gets done. To that end, there are a few albums I ve played on the show recently that have not been released yet that are not part of the list. It could be that an album hasn t been listened to in its entirety yet; you could end up finding them on the year-end show. Also, I tend to miss an album or two that I forget to bring to play for the special. There are two albums of note, and I will tack them on at the bottom of the playlist so that you can look them up and check them out. Enjoy this week s three-hour edition of the show; I ll catch you again next week. I hope your week so far has been a good one. Last weekend was a nice one. A couple of local DJ friends and I traveled to Los Angeles to catch an event featuring Tru Thoughts artist Quantic and Wonderwheel/ESL beatmaker Nickodemus. An outfit called Funky In The Middle was responsible for the goods, with DJ Jeremy Sole fronting things. I was awesome to see Jeremy again, and even more awesome to catch up with Q and Nicko for the first time in ages. I ve also met some new peeps, and danced my ass off to a great time. I will have more info on the event in the coming days, along with pictures. Be sure to check out the show s web site, which has a new interview series called The Snapshot. First up is Demus from 2 Banks of 4, sharing knowledge on the excellent new album on Sonar Kollektiv called Junkard Gods. Hope you enjoy the read. In the meantime, enjoy the latest show. Every year for the past four or so years, KCPR, the college radio station of Cal Poly State University here in San Luis Obispo, California, has had a tradition of encouraging shows all week long to play covers. For the unaware, covers are tunes sung that already been popularized or done, but given a bit of an update by a current artist. It s essentially the musical equivalent of remakes for films. And just like film remakes, the updated music can either give new life, or will make someone want to cover their ears and hide. I hope you keep your pair of precious ears uncovered, because Urban Landscapes is once again joining the rest fo the station in presenting to you its annual covers show. A surprising number of these covers are very recent, or are recent finds for, in one case, an upcoming compilation. There are even a couple of cover albums that are also in the mix. I hope you enjoy the show; back next week. Time to hit you up with some really fresh goodies, including a new Marcos Valle comp and a terrific new full length by the Ipanemas on the stellar Far Out label. Also got remixes from the Latin-tinged Fania label by way of a new comp put together by Mr. Bongo, and a couple of 7 singles from Futuristica Music. Among the other goodies that should not be outdone, the long-awaited Soul Designer album from French producer Fabrice Lig is coming soon, and I ll play you a track from the EP that ll precede it. The kicker of the week, though, is this week s guestmix from Domu. So much has been said about him regarding his productions under his various guises (Sonar Circle and Umod among them), and his TrebleO label has been making waves since its launch not long ago. Given that he has a busy DJ and production schedule, as well as doing some on-air business for BBC s Radio 1 Xtra, he s found time to concoct mixes to coincide with the release of Here Comes Treble, TrebleO s first compilation that should be out in both CD and digital formats by the time you read this. The mix is an exclusive to the show. Time to move on; back atcha next week. Oscar Brown Jr. - Brother Where Are You (Matthew Herbert remix). Taken from 'Verve Remixed II'. Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, he was named for his father Oscar Brown, Sr., who was a successful attorney and real estate broker. His singing debut was on the radio show Secret City at age fifteen. Brown attended Englewood High School in Chicago, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) but did not obtain a degree. He served a stint in the U.S. Army, officially segregated until 1948, where his views on "race relations" were considered "subversive.". In his youth, he was even a member of the Communist Party, USA, which ultimately also decided Oscar was "too subversive"; he was suspected to be a Black Nationalist. After being railroaded by a technical malady last week, the show s back on track. There s plenty of good new music to share with you, as always. To help make up for the lost time, I ve decided to extend the show this week, and add to the flava an exclusive Urban Landscapes guestmix nearly straightaway. It comes once again from the artist known as Ace:Space:Bass from Japan. He s shared a mix last year, and he has a pretty chilled on to kick things off. It s a super-sized mix, but I think you ll enjoy it. Brace yourselves come May, because there ll be guestmixes aplenty that I m really looking forward to sharing with you. Some I have on wait, and others are being concocted and should be in my hands soon. Enjoy this extended edition of Urban Landscapes, and I hope to catch you back here next week. Peace. MC Santana taken from the album hidden shore. www.blackfish-productions.de Hailing from the Frankfurt area, Blackfish is the musical output of Maximillian Lopp and Andreas Baßermann. Seems decades have been past, since they have been active as musicians and music producers in the local music scene. Maximillian created 'Blackfish' in 1998 using his faith and imagination of deep, atmospheric trip-hop and downbeats. He took the melancholic jazz tunes and concise beats that were in his head and set them free, making them a reality. Seems decades have been past, since they have been active as musicians and music producers in the local music scene. In 2001 the first album pole navigation was released on the Konvex Konkav label. With all of his hard work, success was soon to follow. His presence on many important compilations and continuous airplay lead to world wide recognition. New opportunities arose including remixes for Beanfield and Slop Shop, as well as a contribution to the cult Walldorf compilation Zeitlos II . With driving ambition, Maximilian felt the need to venture out of the studio and take Blackfish from the basement to the stage. 2001 also saw the addition of Andreas, with whom he worked the songs into a live performance. The vision of playing live music brought Maximilian and Andreas a certain intense, yet cohesive collaboration with a variety of talented musicians lending way to a new horizon, full of endless possibilities in making music. The result of their teamwork is the second Longplayer Hidden Shore , wich was released in 2005 at maxelect records.Author: blackfish-productions Tags: ambient lounge downbeat triphop nu-jazz chillout electronic music styles Posted: 26 March 2008 Rating: 0.0 Votes: 0

Just as I m now finally getting caught up at least with posting the shows comes the fact that this will be the last show of March. They ll be no show this coming week, so look for the next new broadcast come the first week of April. As this week is the Winter Music Conference in all of his happenin party glory in Miami, I ve chosen this year to give it a rest. It s a blast no doubt, but it s a great deal of work for me when I m there and this year I needed a little bit of a break. The week really is what one makes of it it can be all work, all play, or a bit of both. I must say that having gone through over 1,500 photos and coming up with 800 that are satisfactory, and given that I ve decided early on that doing interviews wasn t really all that feasible under the circumstances, nevertheless it was worth the time. I ve met plenty of cool folks, both for the first time and for reacquaintance of others. They ll be new people who are there for whom, unfortunately, I ll be missing out on this time around. Still, I hope that everyone there have a great time this week. I m planning to return in 2009. In the meantime, please enjoy this week s edition of the show. Back atcha in two weeks time. Peace. Okie dokie, it s about time that you re up-to-date with the latest show. And from the studios of KCPR, no less (unlike the last couple of shows). The tradeoff, though, was a missing headphone adapter, making it unusable on the station s turntable. Then my needles were at home too, so had to use the station s needles which have been, well, very used. While I was able to use headphones, they belong to the station, and really one ear was working mighty crappy. But I somehow came through on the other side, and there s a good amount of fresh music for you to sink your teeth into. So have at it, and thanks again for listening. If you ve been following the show in recent years, you know that he s an ardent supporter of Urban Landscapes, broadcasting the show as part of a weekly late-night lineup on Rodon FM in Serres, Greece. He has his own shows including Nova Planet, and is an extremely hard-working tastemaker hosting events, spinning at gigs, and even taking time to put together compilations. Lightning struck yet again at another valiant attempt to record last week s show live. It was a workaround after my attempt from the week before. Though the method itself worked like a charm, enough of the audio had enough noise in it that ultimately it was discarded. Once again, you re getting a new show minus my voice. Things should be fine next week.Oooo but the music is a good mix, including new Atjazz from his forthcoming album, the brand new full-length from 2 Banks of Four (sent to me by Demus himself big ups, sir) that s the first great album of 2008 (as will Atjazz when it finally hits the streets), another taste from the forthcoming Daru s Friendly Pressure and Dudley Perkins Flowers (I ve waited nearly four years for that to see the light of day thank you thank you thank you!!). This show also marks the first Urban Landscapes Guestmix of 2008, and the mix is an exclusive coming from DJ Offbeat from New York. He s the host of a podcast called Soul Funktion. He s asked me to do a mix for his show, and in turn I ve asked the same from him. Well he delivered the goods on his end first, and I ve yet to keep my end of the deal. He will get his in due time; meanwhile, enjoy the one-hour mix that he s put together. The new site construction is still coming along nicely, and I m going to have a few people contribute to the blog. I have to tell you, all of them are keen music lovers. I ll let you know more about this very soon. Have a good week; another guestmix is coming your way on the next show. Peace.
