(Global Pulse: October 14, 2009) President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize catches the media off guard. But the adjectives quickly start flowing. The war in Afghanistan and the contrast between Mr. Obama and his predecessor, President George W. Bush, fueled the blunt criticism and outright mockery of the Nobel Committee's decision. Is the furor directed at Obama the man, or at Obama, the symbol of America?Sources: NTVKenya, Kenya; Russia Today, Russia; Press TV, Iran; Al Jazeera, Qatar; Fox News, U.S.; ABC News, U.S.; CBS News, U.S.; Forbes.com, U.S.; CNN, U.S.; Los Angeles Times, U.S.; San Francisco Chronicle, U.S.; The Colbert Report, U.S.

President Barack Obama nearly ran the table last week, as he stood before the UN General Assembly, reminding US allies of their responsibilities, in answering the many challenges facing the world today. With expected heavy security, peaceful protestors, demonstrators and rally attendees expressed their displeasure at Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presence as well as his horrid record on human right violations. By the week's end, President Obama had garnered the full support of the French, the British, and Germany as it was revealed that Iran has been hiding a nuclear enrichment facility from the IAEA. With the US meeting this Thursday with the p5 plus one to participate in direct talks to explore diplomatic solutions to Iran's nuclear ambitions, Western efforts should be made easier in light of Iran's admissions and this week's defiant test firing of long range missiles.
