From : nTune.tv (iPod)
North Carolina has more citizens of Scottish ancestry than any other state or nation on Earth including Scotland. Scottish Highlanders started migrating to North Carolina as early as 1729, and were later followed by lowlanders and Scots-Irish settlers as well. Today our landscape ( from the Cape Fear region and into the Blue Ridge Parkway) is dotted with constant reminders of these early Scottish settlers; from street names to church names and town names to surnames, there is no denying that Scotland s people had a huge influence on North Carolina s landscape and culture. Every year, North Carolina hosts one of the most well known highland games in the United States. The Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain provides the descendants of North Carolina s Scottish settlers a chance to get in touch with their roots, and offers everyone else a chance to experience a dizzying display of all things Scottish. The Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain happen every July, and continue to grow in attendance from year to year. If you missed out this year, be sure to be one of the thirty thousand attendants in 2008. Oh, and if you aren t wearing a kilt, you ll feel out of place. Seriously. Music in this episode performed by Albannach, just one of the many great bands that performed in the Celtic Groves at the Highland Games. http://thegathering2009.org/

 From : nTune.tv
Rockabilly was born in 1953 at the Saturday Night Jamboree in Memphis, but thanks to the stalwart enthusiasts of the genre like The Bo-Stevens, it continues to thrive across the country and North Carolina is certainly no exception. Richard Boyd picked up the honky tonk torch a long time ago and hasn't put it down since. He's recruited talented musicians to bring his favorite music to the masses: Greg Bell, Jeff Shu, Mark Peurifoy, and most recently Billie Feather (with whom the band seems to have found it's balance and stride). Pure love for a type of music shows up as pure joy on stage and pure enjoyment for any crowd smart enough to seek out and watch The Bo-Stevens perform live. To hear more or find out when they're playing in a city near year, you can visit them at http://myspace.com/thebostevens.

From : random posts bookmarked by squeakycleanbest - blip.tv (beta)
Greensboro's own Chuck Folds Five aren't afraid to make known their familial ties to one of North Carolina's sweetest success stories, Ben Folds. Chuck Folds (Ben's younger brother) has been an integral part of the local music scene for over 20 years. From his days playing bass with the much sought after Bus Stop, to children's music project, Big Bang Boom (with Steve Willard), Chuck has displayed the kind of musical tenacity that could only be admired by the local musicians who've since traded in their instruments for business suits. This band's name (a tongue in cheek homage to a big brother's success) may have been borrowed, but their sound is all their own. Singer/guitarist/songwriter, Steve Willard brings a pop sensibility and songwriting style to the band that is exclusive to musicians who've cut their teeth playing North Carolina clubs. Steve, Adam, and Chuck know where they want to be, and aren't afraid to do the work and sweat a little bit to get there. Filmed at the Blind Tiger in Greensboro, NC.

 From : nTune.tv
Tom Maxwell wears his heart on his sleeve, and makes no apologies for it. From his years spent as anchor for Northern Hemisphere Live on WXYC in Chapel Hill in the mid to late 1980s, to his vibrant yet sometimes tumultuous career with the Squirrel Nut Zippers in the late 1990s, Tom has always kept his third eye on the prize; enlightenment. The long awaited follow up to his first solo release, Samsara, is currently in it's infancy stages as Tom works out the kinks on some new songs in live solo performances around Chapel Hill. We had the pleasure of hanging out with Tom in his Chatham County home to enjoy some of his new songs, some homebrew and his lap cat, Timothy.www.tommaxwell.com www.myspace.com/tommaxwell http://cdbaby.com/cd/tommaxwell

 From : nTune.tv
Greensboro, NC is not named so for it's gently rolling, green hills. It's named for Major General Nathanael Greene who, in 1781, fought and lost against British General Cornwallis at the Guilford Courthouse. Although, Greene technically lost the battle, the damages he and his small army inflicted on the British soon led to their defeat at Yorktown which ended the Revolutionary War and won America it's independence. Yes, the fate of this nation was decided in Greensboro, NC 226 years ago, and it's celebrated at Guilford Courthouse National Park every year in April. If you didn't make it out this year, don't worry...it'll happen again next year and the park is open to visitors year round.Battle of Guilford CourthouseCommon Knowledge
