Brittany Shoot Interviews Steve Garfield
from Carl Weaver's BlipVlog February 21, 2006
This week's episode of Coffee with Carl (aka Boston Node 101) features Steve Garfield talking about his life and how he came to be a videoblogger. Brittany really needles Steve and asks the tough questions we all wondered about.I took this vide with my Nikon Coolpix 8700 camera, which does not do very good with movies. It's great for stills, though. You can see this by clicking here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/50282184@N00/102839526/ Payment

from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 30, 2005
Road Node 101::Heads Off / Cambridge MA Watch the video Arriving at Mike Serra's place, where cookies were in progress, we hit the streets to hang "We Are the Media" posters. Steve Garfield was more effective than our posters in getting humans to attend, having sent out email notices to his blogging lists. Bloggers are likely candidates to make the switch to vlogging. from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 26, 2005
Road Node 101::Address to Hopelessness Watch the video Speaking to Carl Weaver's class of young people-on-the-edge about jobs in film and videoblogging. Carl writes that one of the fellows you see here has gone back to jail and that another is on his way if things don't change. He calls them, "...the rusty knives in society's silverware drawer." Hadn't planned to post this because it's 16 minutes long, but Jonny Goldstein is gathering teaching materials and thought this might be of interest. Tags: Faux Press Road Node 101

Road Node 101::Reflections Wat...
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 19, 2005
Road Node 101::Reflections Watch the video While this video is a reflection upon Road Node 101 taken the last day officially on the tour, that doesn't mean there aren't a bunch of vids in process. Just wanted to post this wrap-up piece for its immediacy. What a trip it was! The network is strong. Stronger than imagined. And replete with mutual support. The urgency we feel to get the word out sooner is palpable and real. The need to teach folks to create media, important. When you create it, you begin to understand its complex power. Perhaps that's why I stopped consuming popular media for ten years just as I began to work in the film industry. In the end, I remain hugely optimistic about human nature and filled with hope for the future, for WE ARE THE MEDIA, and media is powerful when used as a tool. Work hard; use the proper tools. _______ replete adj 1: filled to satisfaction with food or drink; a full stomach [syn: full, replete(p)] 2: (followed by `with')deeply filled or permeated; imbued with the spirit of the Reformation ; words instinct with love ; it is replete with misery [syn: instinct(p), replete(p)] v : fill to satisfaction; I am sated [syn: satiate, sate, fill]

from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 17, 2005
Road Node 101::The Chipman Music Video Watch the video Music Video time here at the Road Node. a href= http://swordfight.org Philip Clark /a affords a href= http://averrycoollifeblog.blogspot.com Randy /a and I a musical welcome and introduction to Peg, to whom this little piece is dedicated. from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 17, 2005
Road Node 101::The Chipman Interviews Watch the video Philip Clark ov Swordfight.org says there's nothing to do in Chipman, New Brunswick. Humbly beg to differ. There was the stove to attend to. And the gathering and making of food and media. What else is there? Okay. A couple other things, like music and family and chores. And unspoken things. We chat about equipment, where we'll be when the re-evolution comes, the hermit lifestyle and reasons.

Road Node 101::Lowell Telecommunications Corporati...
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 17, 2005
Road Node 101::Lowell Telecommunications Corporation Watch the video Spent a few days in Lowell Massachusetts gathering intelligence about Lowell Telecommunications Corporation and their media operation, with which Randy is intimately and actively involved. Home of the Digital Bicycle project, LTC is on the cutting edge in every way, and I approached them with a healthy doses of humility and respect for many years of experience and service to their community. When I asked Media Services Technician Jason Daniels what set public access television apart from the vlogosphere he characterized its long history as both boon and burden. The vlogosphere for all its naive infancy is light on its feet. The Digital Bicycle will be a means for public access television stations to upload digitized content for sharing. The expect to take the project online in a four-station alpha test soon. Support your public access television station. Would love reports from other vloggers about their local public access endeavors.

Road Node 101 @ University of Maine
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 16, 2005
One of many great lessons learned was the use of blip.tv's alpha of direct browser-based video recording / uploading / posting for Safari browsers (they anticipate other browser capability eventually) as a vlog teaching tool. Here's a glimpse of the new media class to which Randy, Kent and I spoke. Randy was shooting and the kids had lots of questions about the Echochamber Project and Videoblogging. MTV Meetup - Cambridge MA Report
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist October 11, 2005
Pleased to report that the Cambridge MA MTV Meetup was an unadulterated success. Mike and I papered the neighborhood with flyers, but those new to the scene in attendance were induced by virtue of personal contact with Steve Garfield who brought 3 blogger / video capable folks in tow, including Ravi Jain (a comic video maker at http://ravijain.org and http://blog.ravijain.org), Michael (a blogger who is interested in doing some video work) and Holland Wilde, another vlog-curious blogger whose site is http://medianipple.blogspot.com). Thanks, Steve! New folks at other Node Trip MTV events also came from personal contact (the "Vlog it!" LED brooch worked wonders) and via blogmap and an email or two. Also present were Phil Hamilton (who hit the big time here: http://philham.blogspot.com/) and his mom, Donna. How great is that? Turns out Phil's family had no idea he was videoblogging until he was Googled and outed by a relative during his summer vacation. He's as wonderful in person as he is on tape. There was a great lot of excitement around the event, most of which came from seeing one another in person and telling the deeper, longer stories of our lives, like how Mike & Serra of http://headsoff.blogspot.com met (I'll post the story via podcast soon). In other news, heard through the grapevine that Dooser's Dad is intrigued by the vlog idea from our Saratoga Springs MTV. Write you from Winterport Maine and the home of Kent and Jen Bye. The leaves here have turned but not fallen. Tomorrow morning, we conduct an MTV event for the new media class at the University of Maine. Psyche. Then, we're off to Philip Clark and New Brunswick. That's the news from the Road Node. Jan -- "It isn't done alone.
