Today her highly stylized, revolutionary and patented Carol Wior patented "SLIMSUIT" has rocketed to the top the swimwear business to become the new standard for mature women. Her company manufactures more than one million swimsuits a year. Carol's entrepreneurial tenacity has resulted in her becoming one of only 4 per cent of women in the United States who has obtained a patent -- for her Carol Wior patented "Slimsuit" invention. The other 96 percent are men, of course. With a love for the fashion industry, Carol always wanted to open a boutique which is how she ended up in manufacturing. But a tight cash flow caused frustration and delays. One day she remembers going into a garment factory and heard the sound of roaring machines. It was music to her ears. That was the day she found her niche. The intrigue of taking a small piece of fabric and turning it into a stylish design for women to wear was exciting. For over two decades, the unmistakable saxophone solos of Alto Reed have been an integral, memorable part of the multi million-selling hits by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. And now, the veteran Reed man, already being hailed by critics as "the 21st century saxophone player", has spread his musical wings into the "smooth jazz" and "urban" domain with the release with his first all-instrumental album of tenor and alto sax solos, "Cool Breeze". "It's a new growth, a new experience, a new expression," Alto says of the nine-song LP, recorded in Detroit at the brand new, state-of-the-art Harmonie Park INTL studios. "I found myself playing melodies on this project that I never knew were inside of me, in terms of both attitude and style. And the amazing thing is, last year at this time I had no idea that I'd be doing an album like this. It was simply one thing leading to another and the next thing I knew, "Cool Breeze" was on it's way to radio and retail." Reed stresses, however, that the arrival of "Cool Breeze" doesn't mean he's embarking on an exclusive solo career, or diminishing his role with the Silver Bullet Band. "No, no, it has nothing to do with that," he insists. "It's just that I have this boundless musical energy that needs to express itself. This gives me an opportunity to go out and perform a little bit more in addition to working with Bob and the band". "This style of music has taken me back to my musical roots, listening to some of the jazz greats like Coltrane and Charlie Parker", Alto says. "Having grown up in Detroit during the Motown era, I found myself delving back to those early melodic lines that were a part of all the hits from Motown to Stax-Volt and beyond." The fresh musical ideas percolating through every groove of "Cool Breeze" have garnered immediate raves, even from the most discriminating listeners. "It's the most lyrical instrumental album I've heard, and that says everything", gushes veteran newspaper columnist Bob Talbert, the pop culture voice of The Detroit Free Press for nearly 30 years. "I got to the fourth song "Good Love", and I was so moved by what I'd heard that I did something I've never done before. I called Alto up right in the middle of it and told him, I love what I'm hearing. It's like listening to nine different movie scores".
