He is the one who the walls of the Ka'ba broke open for his mother to go inside and give birth - when she gave birth to him she heared a voice telling her to name him Ali. He was still a young boy when he became the first Muslim after seeing the Prophet Mohammad on his way back from receiving his first revelations in the cave of Hira. When the Prophet was ordered by Allah to make his mission public - he gathered 40 members of his family and asked them: "Who would aid me in this cause, so that he would become my brother, my successor and the leader after me?" No one replied to the Prophet except Ali who was still a young boy at that time. Imam Ali defended the Prophet throughout his lifetime, when the men would run away in the battles leaving the Prophet alone with the enemies - Imam Ali would be the only one standing by and protecting the Prophet. No one dared approach Imam Ali in the battle field, he would sometimes cover his face so that the enemies would not run away from him. Allah the Almighty ordered that Imam Ali should marry Fatima the daughter of the Prophet Mohammad. Imam Ali is the father of the 11 Imams and successors of the Prophet after himself. Imam Ali was chosen by Allah and His Prophet to become the leader of the believers after the Prophets death. The Prophet died on the lap of Imam Ali - while the Imam was hitting his head and weeping. Imam Ali was the one who washed and buried the Prophet after his death. The Prophet said: "Ali is with the truth and the truth is with Ali." He also said: "I am the city of knowledge and Ali is the gate." He also said: "Whoever considers me his master, then Ali is also his master. May Allah befriend the friends of Ali, and be the enemy of his enemies." The Prophet also said: "I am leaving for you (after my death) two valuable and weighty things; the Quran and my family. If you adhere to both you will never go astray." The family of the Prophet is none other then Imam Ali, the Prophet's daughter Fatima, her two sons Imam Hassan and Imam Hussein, and the nine Imams from the offspring of Imam Hussein - the ninth being the alive Imam of our time (Imam Mohammad al-Mahdi), who has been alive and in hiding for over a thousand years waiting the order of Allah to reappear. When he reappears everyone will become Muslim, thus the promise of Allah in the Quran - that Allah will inherit the earth to His righteous servants will be fulfilled. May Allah include us with the soldiers of our Imam, and include us with the friends and followers of his grandfather Imam Ali - who will be the divider of mankind on the day of Judgement. He will take his friends and followers with him into paradise, and leave his enemies to burn in hell. The Prophet Mohammad, Imam Ali, Fatima, Imam Hassan, Imam Hussein and the nine Imams from the offspring of Imam Hussein will be the interceders with Allah for the believers - they will intercede with Allah and he will forgive the sins of the believers and grant them paradise. Love for the Prophet and his family is obligatory and an order from Allah as made clear in the Quran and the narrations. Why should we not love them when they only want to benefit us and be the causes of mercy and bliss. Thanks to Allah the Lord of the worlds.
