Video produced by Ross Chapman---- The second Tuesday of each month, social changemakers and web innovators get together to network, socialize and share ideas at Net Tuesday, an event produced by NetSquared a project of TechSoup. This month we have three speakers:Ian Kennedy, a Product Manager for MyBlogLog at Yahoo!, will discuss how nonprofits can use MyBlogLog to build community on their blog or web site.Gordon Strause, a Product Manager for Yahoo! Groups, will talk about how nonprofits and social entrepreneurs are leveraging Yahoo! Groups to build their organizations and movements, and more generally about how nonprofits can best leverage social software.Vince Maniago, Product Manager for Yahoo's social events site Upcoming, will discuss how individuals and organizations can use Upcoming as a platform to promote their events and ideas.Guayak Yerba Mate is our beverage sponsor.Speaker Bios:Ian Kennedy joined Yahoo! two years ago with roles in Corporate Development and the Yahoo Publisher Network. He is currently Product Manager for MyBlogLog, a service Yahoo! acquired in January 2007.Prior to Yahoo!, Ian was Director of Sales & Partner Development at Six Apart where he helped establish the TypePad business class program and Movable Type's Hosting Partner program.Gordon Strause joined Yahoo! in early 2005 after a career that has been roughly equally divided between the nonprofit and social software worlds. In the nonprofit sector, Gordon helped to start City Year, and has also worked or consulted for Citizen Schools, the Hands On Network, the Community Health Corps, and One Economy. In the technology sector, Gordon has worked at Firefly, Well Engaged, eCircles, and Judy's Book, in addition to Yahoo!.Vince Maniago is so vain his bio wouldn't fit in this space, but he is the guy who tries to pull it all together for Upcoming. He also has the amazing ability to finish anyone's sentences but his own. He's a huge fan and enabler of things like Hack Day, Mashup Camp and Open APIs.

LearnDog Remixed 009 - Building Community in the LongTail - Part1 Download ldrpoc002-009-BuildingLongTailCommunity.mp3 (5839.2K) Dog's Eye View on important Conversations Conversations I've noticed that impact LearnDog and our community building efforts. There are several, will only address one today - based on a podcast from NetSquared where Mena Trott (Six Apart) talks with Marnie Webb. Mena Trott at NetSquared You can get the full podcast: Net Tuesday 2/15: Mena Trott of Six Apart, Interview (Interview with Mena Trott, president and co-founder of Six Apart, about how blogging is evolving ... (16 days ago)) I interrupt and talk all over the conversation about - not having to be a citizen journalist, the magic number 'six' in typepad, small groups aggregating around a cause, and other thoughts on building networks of networks. Dave Slusher - EvilGeniusChronicles Next, I replay a piece from the 'Asynchronous (Space Telephone) conversation' Dave Slusher and I had, where he talks about Buckminster Fuller Geodesic Domes. I suggest there is some wisdom in thinking about how to structure networks of networks according to shape. Conclusion Lets try to get some more conversation going about these important concepts. LearnDog has to figure this stuff out to change the world - our learnings will probably be useful to other social activists.
