What a group at the Buker School! It may have been raining outside, but only sunny dispositions were found inside these friendly walls in Wenham, MA, with the third, fourth and fifth grades. The Buker School will be my last school visit of 2009, as I dive into a big project to bring our NECN Weather Team into High-Definition, for a transition you'll see on your TV January 18 (of course, as the kids know, my school visit videos here have been in HD for quite some time!). You'll still see me out and about, with updates on this page, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, working with Globe Santa, and many other events through the holidays...then back into the classroom immediately following our HD conversion!

The sixth grade met me in the auditorium for a great discussion of weather...AND meteors, with the Leonid meteor shower set to peak overnight Monday night! Did you know the average size of a meteor is the size of Grape Nut cereal? These sixth graders do now!

This was my second year in a row as Master of Ceremonies and auctioneer for the Esperanza Academy's annual fundraising bash - and what a wonderful time it was! One of the special characteristics of this fundraiser is the involvement of the students - from preparing to performing, the girls are an important part of the night in every way. There's no question they serve as the best reminder possible of why the night is so important! The second and third grade were full of energy and enthusiasm for my visit with them on Tuesday - and were so kind to give me a school t-shirt and some terrific Hannah School trinkets, like a mini flashlight and pencil. Thanks, everyone, for a great time!

I've been visiting the Bagnall School for three or four years in a row - ever since my cousin Andrew...and then his younger brother Stevie...were students there! These kids were packed full of energy, but were fantastic "active listeners" and I even learned how to do the "Quiet Coyote" - a classroom favorite! :)

It's only a few times each year that I make an afterschool visit, but I enjoy having the chance to meet both the students AND their parents after their school day has ended! Lots of kids at the Coffin School tune into NECN in the morning, and I was welcomed so warmly - right down to the long line for autographs afterward! Thanks for being such a friendly and energetic group...even at the end of your day!
