This podcast is a recording of the NECC 2007 presentation Reinventing Project-Based Learning: Your Field Guide to Real-World Projects in the Digital Age by Jane Krauss and Suzie Boss, along with several other educators who joined the session via Skype. As the authors of an upcoming book on project-based learning with the same title as this presentation, Jane and Suzie shared about their own learning journeys in conducting the research and actually writing this book. They including many different projects teachers and students around the world are involved in to both engage and educate them with skills they ll need to thrive today and in the future. I apologize that the last few minutes of this session were cut off, I was not able to stay for the last few minutes of this session at NECC due to another commitment. The majority of their message is here, however, and I want to express thanks to all the presenters for both their message as well as giving permission to share this recording as a podcast.  SHOWNOTES: My text notes from this NECC presentation Jane and Suzie s book blog Jane s del.icio.us social bookmarks Suzie s del.icio.us social bookmarks The Reinventing Project-Based Learning Flickr Group (join and contribute!  Subscribe to Moving at the Speed of Creativity weekly podcasts! Podcast169: A Conversation with Marco Torres about Light Saber Special Effect Techniques, Digital Technologies in the Hands of Eager Learners, and Worthwhile Teacher Professional Development

Podcast169: A Conversation with Marco Torres about Light Saber Special Effect Techniques, Digital Technologies in the Hands of Eager Learners, and Worthwhile Teacher Professional Development

from Moving at the Speed of Creativity » podcasts on July 08, 2007
Duration: 0
This podcast is a recording of a conversation I had with Marco Torres at NECC 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia. The initial question we started with focused on how to make light saber effects in a movie, but our conversation continued and focused on other uses for Final Cut Studio Pro software, ways for helping students learn complex technology skills ( dream it and figure out how to do it together) as well as effective professional development strategies for teachers, among other topics. Marco continues to be one of my foremost Yodas (mentors) when it comes to the effective use of digital technologies to tell stories, and the work his kids have done and continue to do inside and outside the classroom really puts them in a class by themselves. Many thanks to Marco for both sharing his expertise and being willing to allow his perspectives to be shared out with others via this podcast recording. SHOWNOTES: Homepage of Marco Torres: educator, producer, media artist, consultant Motion Software included as part of Final Cut Studio Pro  Subscribe to Moving at the Speed of Creativity weekly podcasts! Will provided a thorough list of major points and links on a wiki site he created to accompany his presentation, included in the podcast shownotes. Will continues to challenge educational leaders at all levels to question the ways Schools are or are not responding to the dynamic information landscape in which we find ourselves in the early 21st century. As a noted leader in the broader educational community, as well as the narrower edu-blogger community, Will invites listeners to both envision and work toward new paradigms of learning in our increasingly connected world. Podcast164: Dr. Tim Tyson’s NECC 2007 Closing Keynote

Podcast164: Dr. Tim Tyson’s NECC 2007 Closing Keynote

from Moving at the Speed of Creativity » podcasts on June 28, 2007
Duration: 0
This is a podcast recording of the closing keynote at NECC 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference description of the session was: Dr. Tim Tyson, principal of Mabry Middle School, has been called the Pied Piper of Educational Technology by the School Library Journal and we agree! Sticking with our keynote theme on creativity and innovation, Tim wraps up NECC with concrete examples of how the creative process can enliven teaching and learning while investing community in student success. Tim will discuss how Mabry, in just over five years, has made learning irresistible by closing the gap between content and meaningfulness in the classroom. Students are both content-creators and standard-setting, world-wide publishers of digital media. Through MabryOnline.org, which serves up over 1.5 million files a month, and the iTunes store, digital media content created by Mabry students, teachers, and administrators is shared with viewers all over the world. Each May, Mabry students participate in the annual Mabry Film Festival, an Oscar-like gala celebration of the digital academic content they have created that attracts attendees from all over Atlanta. Students Josh Schwarz and Tia Riedlinger join Tim in this inspirational, can-do story of how technology, innovation, and creativity are transforming how an entire community thinks about the role of education in preparing students for the 21st century.
