Heading Back by Andrew McCaskey We are packing out for the trip back to the Midwest after six weeks more or less camped out at relatives in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Even this rural area has some surprises. Most notable of which was the growth in wideband availabilty over the past six months. While there were generally all sorts of adventures required to find wifi connections - particularly late at night after the coffee shops had shut down and businesses were closed, this trip things have changed. First of all, the local cable company (was Adelphia, now Comcast) finally put in real two way broadband, replacing the overpriced RF down, telco line up that had been offered for years. New hardware and few subscribers mean t lightning speeds for most of the time here. The most amazing part was Sprint EVDO - which just arrived. Still limited to areas in the proximity of the interstate, it s still killer when it works. Good family times and good connectivity so that work can continue has been a good combination. Not much of a vacation, but a good change of pace. Plus, two great podcamps (even though expensive trips to Ohio and Boston) to keep in the swing of things, plus the New Media Expo coming up in just a few weeks. Media Minutes: July 25, 2008
from radio.indymedia.org July 24, 2008
In a House hearing about privacy and the Internet, Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) indicated that Congress could take action to strengthen privacy protections. And a study disproves the notion that TV news audiences prefer superficial tabloid coverage to well-written quality journalism.

Tracking A Consumer’s Internet Use Patterns Across Multiple Websites (Part 2 of 2)
from Inside Digital Media January 10, 2008
[See post to watch Flash video] Download to iPod Video If you would like to learn about an Internet ad service that can track consumer behavior across multiple unrelated websites because it is embedded within the infrastructure of the ISP, this interview is for you. (Part 2 of 2). Our guest today is Robert Dykes who is the CEO of NebuAd. Unlike other Internet advertising services, NebuAd is built-into the infrastructure of the Internet Service Provider (ISP). Since the ISP is the gateway for each subscriber, NebuAd can (anonymously) track a consumer’s use of the Internet across all websites. Unlike website-centric ad services, NebuAd can construct more detailed and accurate profiles of each consumer’s interest thereby resulting in better ad targeting. (more )
