Wilson and Dr. David Suzuki about how to preserve life on Planet Earth. THE ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL SCREENS IN WASHINGTON D.C. The 2007 Environmental Film Festival in the nation's capitol, screened 115 films that covered a vast range of issues affecting the environment. Over 20,000 attended the eleven day festival to see cinematic works from 27 countries. Earth Focus presents clips from some of these films, including: "Rare Bird," which looks at the discovery of the Cahow, a bird thought to be extinct for over 300 years; "The Secret Life of a Naturalist," about Dr. Edward O. Wilson, the pioneering scientist who turned his observations of ant behavior into a new discipline: sociobiology; "The Pachamama Alliance," produced by Channel G, documents a partnership with the indigenous people of the Amazon region of Ecuador, empowering them to protect the rainforest that they call home; "The Return of the American Elm," which depicts the comeback of America's most popular, urban tree following the devastating Dutch elm epidemic. WILSON INTERVIEW Earth Focus correspondent Miles Benson interviews Dr. Wilson, esteemed entomologist and leading expert on evolution, ecology, and conservation about the current problems facing our planet, and his ideas for possible solutions.
