As a mother of three daughters, I like to seek out films that have strong female characters. So many of the roles for females in Hollywood either fall into blatant stereotypes or position young girls and women as existing on this planet primarily for the pleasures of the male half of the species, and I don't want my girls growing up believing the images of women they're exposed to through the media. Of course, everything in life doesn't have to have a political agenda -- what fun would that be? So some of these are just films my own daughters very much enjoy, that the girl in your life might like also. Here are seven great films for fans of American Girl books and movies ... let me know what others I've missed that you like; with only seven slots to work with, I had to leave out a lot of films I otherwise would have included ... The Panther?s Claw starring Sidney Blackmer, made in 1942 is in B&W and runs 70 min. A man is suspected of killing his secret lover, only to find a business rival turn up dead as well. Fictional cool cop Thatcher Colt comes to the rescue as he thinks something smells funny all around.

Our second feature film stars Trevor Howard in The Opium Connection. Made in 1966, this movie runs 99 min. trying to catch international drug dealers; U.N. investigators add radioactive isotopes to the dope to track the criminals down.

Mukasey, president Bush?s pick to fill the vacuum left at the Justice Dept. by the disgraced flunky Alberto Gonzales, fought valiantly to fend off an agitated group of irritated inquisitors, doing all they could to ensure they did not let a yes man slip through the process and end up serving at the whim of the president and not the nation.

Our second feature is Bela Lugosi Meet A Brooklyn Gorilla. Bela Stars as Dr. Zabor, a mad scientist (what else?) living on a Pacific island who spends his time with evolutionary experiments. Two visitors that look suspiciously like the famed Martina and Lewis show up just in time to help the doc.

Our second seventies made flick is The Casablanca Express. This film runs 75 min. and is not rated. In 1942, Winston Churchill takes a flight to Casablanca while his double is shot down by the Germans and captured. In order to protect the true whereabouts of the British PM the decoy must be rescued from the Nazis before he spills the beans.
