Joe Carr's song "A Dove's Last Song" about Rachel Corrie with Video of the Mural in Olympia that is Dedicated to Rachel. Rachel Aliene Corrie (April 10, 1979 March 16, 2003) was an American member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) who traveled to the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada. She was murdered by a bulldozer operator from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Joe Carr, an American ISM activist who used the assumed name of Joseph Smith during his time in Gaza, gave the following account in an affidavit recorded and published by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR): Still wearing her fluorescent jacket, she knelt down at least 15 meters in front of the bulldozer, and began waving her arms and shouting, just as activists had successfully done dozens of times that day... When it got so close that it was moving the earth beneath her, she climbed onto the pile of rubble being pushed by the bulldozer... Her head and upper torso were above the bulldozers blade, and the bulldozer driver and co-operator could clearly see her. Despite this, the driver continued forward, which caused her to fall back, out of view of the diver. [sic] He continued forward, and she tried to scoot back, but was quickly pulled underneath the bulldozer. We ran towards him, and waved our arms and shouted; one activist with the megaphone. But the bulldozer driver continued forward, until Rachel was all the way underneath the central section of the bulldozer.

The vision for the Tel Aviv Mural Project began over 6 months before its unveiling on the wall of the Jewish Agency building. It was a challenging undertaking; assembling a group of professional artists and constructing a larger team to include a group of students from the Meyerhoff Art Education Center. The designers of the project studied in France for 6 months with the Cite De Creation group, mastering the 3,000-year-old marouflage technique. The largest mural in the city now stands as a testament to the team which crystallized their images of Tel Aviv in a multi-imaged yet cleverly cohesive construct of a city just over 100 years old, but burgeoning with culture and history. Fred Gutzeit “Love to Fred from Lee Lozano” at POCKET UTOPIA

from James Kalm Report on November 18, 2008
Duration: 603
James Kalm guides viewers through a Bowery studio visit with artist Fred Gutzeit, through the development of his Lee Wall mural, to the installation and the work s debut at Pocket Utopia in Brooklyn s cutting edge neighborhood MoJo. The enigmatic persona of Lee Lozano (1930-1999) is the inspiration and muse, which inspired Gutzeit s project. Lozano was a ubiquitous force in the burgeoning early era of Soho. In a brief career spanning barely a decade Lozano moved through all the major art movements of the period, collecting eminent friendships among a broad cross section of the New York art world. Her pioneering actions are seen as provocative achievements in conceptual art, and led to her eventual expatriation from the New York scene.
