Marc Jacobs describes the opening ceremony for the exhibit as a fantastic collision of fashion, art, and music, adding that Murakami s cross-branding style is reminiscent of the old days, where creative people didn t stay in their box but bonded with each other and collaborated with each other. Sarah Thornton, SEVEN DAYS IN THE ART WORLD
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) May 26, 2008
Sociologist Sarah Thornton (www.sarah-thornton.com) describes her new book, SEVEN DAYS IN THE ART WORLD: A fly-on-the-wall account of the smart and strange subcultures that make, trade, curate, collect, and hype contemporary art. The art market has been booming. Museum attendance is surging. More people than ever call themselves artists. Contemporary art has become a mass entertainment, a luxury good, a job description, and, for some, a kind of alternative religion. In a series of beautifully paced narratives, Sarah Thornton investigates the drama of a Christie's auction, the workings in Takashi Murakami's studios, the elite at the Basel Art Fair, the eccentricities of Artforum magazine, the competition behind an important art prize, life in a notorious art-school seminar, and the wonderland of the Venice Biennale. She reveals the new dynamics of creativity, taste, status, money, and the search for meaning in life. A judicious and juicy account of the institutions that have the power to shape art history, based on hundreds of interviews with high-profile players, Thornton's entertaining ethnography will change the way you look at contemporary culture.

Max Richter "Verses" Songs From Before FatCat Records Directed by: Aaron Marshall "Maybe, in some distant place, everything is already, quietly, lost. Or at least there exists a silent place where everything can disappear, melding together in a single, overlapping figure. And as we live our lives we discover-drawing towards us the thin threads attached to each what has been lost. I closed my eyes and tried to bring to mind as many beautiful things as I could. Drawing them closer, holding on to them. Knowing all the while that their lives are fleeting... knowing all the while that their lives are fleeting." On visual metaphysical speculations
from spacetwo : patalab January 18, 2008
click for video: Quicktime / Flash and other versions at Blip.tv " It was a day like a slow-motion video of twilight. Uneventful, to put it mildly. The lead grey of the sky mixed ever so slowly with black, finally blending into the night. Just another quality of melancholy. As if there were only two collectors in the world, grey and black, shifting back and forth at regular intervals..." Meddling with bits and pieces of recent footage, Sam Renseiw montages further, still under the spell of Inland Empire, into the first part of Dance Dance Dance and quite puzzled by recent events. View the resulting blend, a mixture of gothic-voodle and deconstructed visual moving fragments, reassembled, by clicking here or on the links above.
