Corporate advertising seems increasingly meaningless to me. Companies have developed their own language to describe their products and the associated visuals and brand messages have become so symbolic and so psychologically profiled/focus-grouped that I struggle to make sense of what the advert is actually saying. They appear to me as something I hardly see, I imagine they just go straight to my subconscious. Here are some examples of what I mean: Shell Petrol and cars = fish? What the...?! iPod Why would this advert make me buy the product? What are those background colours about? Coca Cola I don't understand the connection between polar bears and a fizzy drink. Nike Only Nike lets you be like this? I thought it would be fun to make some adverts of my own. They would be commercials that tell the truth about products from a consumer's (my) point of view and they would reflect my relationship to the global multinational brand. So here they are: True Adverts 1-4: Shell, iPod, Coca Cola, Nike.
