Andrew Muir - Britain's Got Talent
from YouTube :: Tag // modest May 29, 2008
Information taken from http://talent.itv.com/stories/viewStory/16477584 By the time Andrew Muir walked onstage to audition, the judges' hopes of finding Britain's next superstar in Glasgow had all but run out. A plumber by trade, Andrew has always loved singing and dreams of the day he can swap his plunger for a microphone, and become a professional singer. "I live in a small village and everybody calls me the Singing Plumber!" admitted the 24-year old from West Lothian. "The guys I work with are always telling me to shut up!" Well the audience and the judges were a lot more appreciative of Andrew's talents, much to his obvious relief. He cut a nervous figure stood in front of the 2,000-strong audience. But as soon he put the mic to his lips and began to sing, it was as if all his worries washed away, and he lost himself in the performance. Singing Paulo Nutini's Rewind, it wasn't long before the whole auditorium were swaying from side to side and singing along to all the words. When he had finished the crowd were on their feet and the judges had big smiles on their faces. Amanda recognised that all too familiar "likeability factor" in Andrew and called him a modest person with a huge talent. Picking up on all the wolf-whistles Andrew was receiving, Piers joked: "A lot of women in this audience have just developed urgent plumbing problems!" The highest praise of all came from Simon who claimed Andrew's performance had made coming to Scotland worthwhile: "You walked on with zero confidence and almost zero personality" he said: "But, your confidence grew, it was fantastic to watch. " Having booked himself in the semis, the Singing Plumber will be hoping to turn his pipe dream into a reality. San Francisco - Muir Woods Excursion
from YouTube :: Tag // shopping March 13, 2008
After a late night of exotic entertainment at Asia SF, our day (February 24, 2008) got started very early, and although it was raining I decided to capture a few photos Union Square and the area surrounding our hotel. I walked just a few steps east to Union Square, the heart of San Francisco's shopping, hotel and theatre district. Big shopping venues such as Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus surround this historic square. Luxury stores such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Prada, Armani and Hermes are also represented. Just west from The Handlery are two historic theatres: the Geary and Curran Theatres. The Moscone Convention Centre and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art are close by as well. Before our excursion to Muir Woods I got a quick hour long walk in to check out some of the streets surrounding Union Square and had a delicious waffle breakfast in a little 24 hour eatery called Pinecrest Diner. Punctually at 8:30 am we got picked up by a diesel-powered van from Incredible Adventures, chauffered by our charming driver and local expert Michelle. She had three other guests in the van: a grandmother, mother and granddaughter team from Texas who were here for a quick girls' weekend getaway. Off we drove, and Michelle started to explain the various parts of San Francisco and Marin County that we started driving through. We made it up into the Muir Woods National Monument where we admired one of the few remaining old-growth coastal redwood forests. Before logging started in California there were an estimated 2 million acres (or 8000 square kilometers) of redwood forests. By the early part of the last century, most of these trees had vanished, cut down for construction and industrial purposes. In the early 1900s, a local Congressman by the name of William Kent was acutely aware of the need to preserve some of the last remainders of these forests, and he purchased 611 acres (2.47 square kilometers) of land from the Tamalpais Land and Water Company to protect these unique redwood trees. In 1908 President Theodore Roosevelt declared the land a national monument, the first such area to be created from land that was donated by a private individual. Today Muir Woods features Giant Sequoia trees that grow up to 380 feet or 115 metres. On average the trees are between 500 and 800 years old, and the oldest is about 1,100 years old. Other species in the forest include California Bay Laurel, Bigleaf Maple Trees and Tanoak. More than 50 species of birds make Muir Woods their home. After this first introduction to Marin County, we continued to drive north to the Sonoma Valley to start our wine-tasting tour. Santa Clara University enters SL
from - blip.tv (beta) November 06, 2007
the educational sector seem to "get" SL better than the strictly corporate world. One after the other place of learning is growing the grid and now a Jesuit school is joining the choir. Draxtor Despres gives an overview.
