Descending Mt. Lassen - Ski MountaineeringDescending Mt. Lassen - Ski Mountaineering
from YouTube :: Tag // snowboard
July 17, 2008

A short clip of our descent down the NE face of Mt Lassen in late May. The entrance was at the saddle between the landing that seems like the peak and the true summit a few hundred yards to the NW. We got to the top at the tail end of a storm that dropped 4-6in of fresh snow on Lassen. Author: googlewis Keywords: winter sports skiing snowboarding mountaineering Added: July 17, 2008

Time To Move On. It seems like we've just arrived at BC, and now it's time to leave. Wait, we did just arrive! But of course it's the journey, not the destination that is the most important. So, we're heading out to continue our journey.

Author Lincoln Hall visits Google's Mountain View, Ca headquarters to discuss his book "Dead Lucky: Life After Death on Mount Everest". This event took place on May 21, 2008, as a part of the Authors@google series. For more info about Lincoln Hall, please visit http://www.lincolnhall.net/ Lincoln Hall set off for Everest in early May 2006. Five weeks after reaching Base Camp in Tibet, he began his push for the summit. After three days of climbing higher into the oxygenless air, he was blessed with a perfect summit day. For a few minutes, Hall was the highest man on the planet. His Sherpa companions arrived, photos were taken, and the climbers commenced their long descent. Then things began to go horribly wrong. Hall was struck by cerebral edema--high-altitude sickness--in the aptly named "death zone." Drowsiness quickly became overpowering lethargy, and he collapsed in the snow. Two Sherpas spent hours trying to revive him, but as darkness fell he was pronounced dead. Early the next day, Dan Mazur, an American mountaineering guide with two clients and a Sherpa, was startled to find Hall sitting cross-legged on the knife-edged crest of the summit ridge. Hall's first words--"I imagine you are surprised to see me here"--were a massive understatement. Everest: Olympic Torch Summits OutEverest: Olympic Torch Summits Out
from Team Geared Up Blog
May 07, 2008

UPDATE 2215hrs - Video of torch on summit via Reuters: SINGAPORE (Team Geared Up) - An incoming report on the news today started like this EVEREST BASE CAMP, China (Reuters) - The Olympic torch was lit at the top of Mount Everest on Thursday, the crowning moment of the Beijing Games torch relay which had been dogged by anti-Chinese protests on its world tour. Live reports from Everest Base Camp have such a historic ring to them it generates excitement before reading them. The Everest flame will be reunited with the main flame later in the relay, possibly when it passes through Lhasa in mid-June. Three months to the day before the Games open, the first batch of climbers from a 31-strong team set out at about 1.30 am (1:30 p.m. EDT) from a camp at 8,300 meters. The climbers trudged slowly to the summit, in the final stages, staging a mini-relay. They unfurled the Chinese national flag, a flag with the five Olympic rings and a flag bearing the Beijing Olympic logo. The real news here is that the Chinese authorities banned anybody else from stepping onto the mountain so far this season to insure themselves against having anybody get in their way to the summit. Now they ve summited the other teams can start moving above camp 2 where the army have been preventing them from moving. Is it right to close a mountain? -Robin

http://www.pbs.org/frontline/everest Watch FRONTLINE "Storm Over Everest," a David Breashears film, on air and online beginning May 13. As darkness fell on May 10, 1996, a fast moving storm of unimaginable ferocity trapped three climbing teams high on the slopes of Mount Everest. The climbers, exhausted from their summit climb, were soon lost in darkness, in a fierce blizzard, far from the safety of High Camp at 26,000 feet. World-renowned climber and filmmaker David Breashears, who aided the rescue efforts back in 1996, now returns to Everest to tell the fuller story of what really happened on that legendary climb. Through remarkably intimate interviews with the climbers and Sherpas who survived the storm many who have never spoken before on American television Breashears sheds new light on the worst climbing tragedy in Mount Everest's history. La version finale du film MedeO'z pour les Outdoorgames de Chamonix http://winter.outdoorgames.org/fr/ C'est un concours vidéo ou 7 équipes de 12 personnes doivent réaliser un film de 5 minutes en 5 jours, en montrant 5 sports différents (Alpinisme, ski, snowboard, parapente director's cut of the MedeO'z Team movie, shot and edited in one only week, during the Outdoorgames in Chamonix (February 2008). This is a 5-minute short film movie featuring 5 different sports: mountaineering, skiing, snowboarding, paragliding and base jumping. All the footage and editing had to be done in five days, from Monday to Friday and had to be shot in the Mount Blanc range. The movie had to be understandable for the international jury, so we made the voice-over in English. But for those who don’t really understand English: the idea was to tell the story of our photographer, who wanted to make one shot showing all the sports, instead of taking one picture of each sport (which took us a lot of work!!).
