Experimental narrative. Used After Effects CS3 to color correct, time remap, airbrushing, film grain, advanced lighting techniques with masks and motion tracking. I used Video Copilot's Twitch plug-in along with their Designer Sound FX DVD. Edited on Premiere Pro CS3. End music track, Firstborn by J. Tillman

"talking bodies"

This was a one-time only mixed evening, though all parts concerned talking, as the title implied. One would think that this could serve as a unifying theme, but i remember thinking, "nothing has anything to do with anything else". "Talking" can be so many things, and it is almost impossible to focus on -- anyway, such was my experience.

We did this in different forms a number of times. Emily Fernandez and Frieder Weiss created it and Babis cloud dj'd the music. I would have to say that this piece really marked the beginning of sceptical feelings towards video projections. It was not clear to me at the time -- i remember thinking, as most people did, "wow, cool images", but even then something was bothering me. Where was emily? "A Human Conversation"

Though short, and perhaps unfinished, this thing worked out very nicely. Mimi Jeong was marvelous. Dan Hosken, composer, and I had the idea to deconstruct a conversation -- i.e. to extract all trace of content, in order to be left ... what? the basic human impulses? the rhythms of exchange innate to human conversation. We chose ADSL (american deaf sign language) to use as our stand-in for language, since neither we, nor anyone in the audience spoke it. I like this project, and feel it could go on and on, just as linguistics research will surely do.

im proud of this. a very dark piece, about a very dark side of life. this was emotionally a very difficult piece to make. but im very proud of it. proud of the crew. i remember when it was over, people had to be asked to leave the theater - they were so deep in debate with their neighbors... if you are curious, i can send you the libretto so you can see what it was about.
