The Federal Reserve and How it Affects Us
from YouTube :: Tag // money June 19, 2008
This presentation addresses the following questions: (1) What is the structure of the Fed? (2) What are the activities of the Fed? (3) What factors influence the Fed? Since its conception in 1913, the Federal Reserve System has had the same purpose, to instill confidence in our monetary and economic system. Although the purpose remains the same, the ways this goal is carried out have changed dramatically over the years. Emerging democracies from around the world use the Fed as a model to help them to develop their own monetary policy, to provide price stability, economic growth, and better living standards for their citizens. In essence, the real purpose of the Fed is to provide trust in our nation's money. Author: dschutte3 Keywords: Federal Reserve monetary policy economy Added: June 19, 2008

MAS tells banks: pull your socks up!
from Revver - review Videos February 22, 2008
Author: InvestorCentra Added: Fri, 22 Feb 2008 11:46:19 -0800 Duration: 129Is it a coincidence that the two financial services regulators announced reviews this week, whose endgame is for retail investors to be treated with more respect? The Singapore Exchange started the week with a review of fines for companies which don't do the right thing by investors. The Monetary Authority ended it by seeking "views on proposed Guidelines on Fair Dealing Board and Senior Management Responsibility for Delivering Fair Dealing Outcomes to Consumers". If it is a coincidence, it is certainly a happy one.

David Harvey: A Brief History of Neoliberalism - 5 of 5
from YouTube :: Tag // milton-friedman June 13, 2007
Neoliberalism - the doctrine that market exchange is an ethic in itself, capable of acting as a guide for all human action - has become dominant in both thought and practice throughout much of the world since 1970 or so. Its spread has depended upon a reconstitution of state powers such that privatization, finance, and market processes are emphasized. State interventions in the economy are minimized, while the obligations of the state to provide for the welfare of its citizens are diminished. David Harvey, author of 'The New Imperialism' and 'The Condition of Postmodernity', here tells the political-economic story of where neoliberalization came from and how it proliferated on the world stage. While Thatcher and Reagan are often cited as primary authors of this neoliberal turn, Harvey shows how a complex of forces, from Chile to China and from New York City to Mexico City, have also played their part. In addition he explores the continuities and contrasts between neoliberalism of the Clinton sort and the recent turn towards neoconservative imperialism of George W. Bush. Finally, through critical engagement with this history, Harvey constructs a framework not only for analyzing the political and economic dangers that now surround us, but also for assessing the prospects for the more socially just alternatives being advocated by many oppositional movements.
