Anton Henning “German Enlightenment” at ZACH FEUER GALLERY

Anton Henning “German Enlightenment” at ZACH FEUER GALLERY

from FINZ.tv on October 17, 2008
Duration: 471
James Kalm sneaks out of the studio to accompany viewers on a brief run-through of German Enlightenment , Henning s second one man show at this venue. Representing a selection of work from the last eight years, Henning barrows, mixes and mingles various Modernist devices and stylistic mannerisms to create paintings that question the strict doctrine of the evolutionary timeline. By adding preposterously large frames of blond plywood with their own lighting elements, and darkening the gallery, Henning moves the paintings in to the realm of the object and creates an installation that verges on a kitsch critique of the accepted notion of stylistic progress and purity.
