Rags to Riches Comedy Movie: Red Lights Ahead (1936)

from Dailymotion - search results: rich on February 11, 2008

Red Lights Ahead is an amusing journey through nineteen thirties’ cultural ideas about money, greed and family. Lead by comedic star Andy Clyde as the grandfather, the Wallace’s are a family of lazy loafers who would like nothing better than to do, well, nothing. When Pa gets offered a chance to invest in a gold mine, the kids jump all over him to do it, imagining the lavish lifestyle they’ll be able to lead. As the checks come rolling in every month, the family is overcome by materialism and greed. They even manage to take several cheap-shots at Spiritualism, in favor of a more capitalistic sloth. But when the original investment is revealed to be a pyramid scheme, the family is back to being down and out, forcing them to learn the true values of life. Red Lights Ahead is a riotous comedy while at the same time offering a fascinating look at values and culture of early twentieth century America.Author: QualityInformation Tags: gold mines american family values materialism pyramid scam history morals best comedy films Posted: 11 February 2008 Rating: 5.0 Votes: 1
