Dark Horse Brewing Company, a tiny little brewery from Marshall, Michigan pushes out a decent amber ale - enough to intrigue us to want to try more of their offerings. What's interesting about this particular beer is that they use what they called "Belgian-inspired" yeast, which does lend this amber ale a somewhat sweeter, Belgian-like quality, which is not lost on us.

In several regions of the United States -- Michigan, parts of Ohio and Indiana, stretches of New England and the rural south, historically depressed urban areas -- the jobless figures are so acute that they have become the definitional social, economic and political concern. As the Copenhagen conference on climate change begins this week, 56 newspapes in 45 countries carried one editorial that called for common action around the world, for governments of countries rich and poor, developed and developing to work together for solutions. In part, it reads:Few believe that Copenhagen can any longer produce a fully polished treaty; real progress towards one could only begin with the arrival of President Obama in the White House and the reversal of years of US obstructionism. Even now the world finds itself at the mercy of American domestic politics, for the president cannot fully commit to the action required until the US Congress has done so.Since U.S. presidents and Congress have dragged their heels, local activists and governments have often taken the lead in pushing for stronger regulations and innovations. While journalists and delegates converge on the summit, we talk to some New Yorkers working for change in their own backyards. Miquela Craytor, Executive Director of Sustainable South Bronx, James Gennaro of the New York City Council, and Dale Bryk of the Natural Resources Defense Council are all working in different ways to create sustainable jobs and fight climate change.John Nichols of the Nation focuses on the "jobs" part of that equation, noting that the unemployment rate has rippling real-world effects and calling for the government to shift TARP (bank bailout) money to create a jobs program. To lighten things up a little, we have Mary McBride, whose voice you may recognize from her song "No One's Gonna Love You Like Me" from Ang Lee's film Brokeback Mountain. Mary has a new holiday album out, Every Day Is a Holiday, and she talks songwriting, Brokeback, and being out of the closet as a musician with a very mixed audience. Finally, we revisit Honduras, where the recent election was boycotted by supporters of ousted President Manuel Zelaya.
