Project Blowed - Rhythm Lounge - 2006
from Kingpin/Ronin April 28, 2008
One more from the archives... Project Blowed and Crew, Live at the Rhythm Lounge in Long Beach, California, circa 2006. This is the first time I had seen anybody from Project Blowed. What I remembered most about the show was the fact that somone from their entourage tried to walk off with one of the Mics, and Limon (doing sound for the night) got pissed and refused to pay anybody until it was returned. When he told them he got it on camera, the Mic just magically showed up. ;) Funny, but with all those cameras walking around onstage and in the front of the audience, I havent seen any of this video online... Maybe they were doing it for a DVD or something. Formats available: MPEG4 Video (.mp4)

Renata Prokel's Slideshow for '24' - Chicago 2007
from Kingpin/Ronin January 21, 2008
Here is my slideshow of Renata Prokel s photos, from the 24 event in Chicago, August of 2007.In a nutshell, the 24 was about staging an event incorporating dance, music, video, spoken word, and other performances, from initial concept to final production, in 24 hours. That s right, 24 hours. Renata was running around taking photos of everything happening during that time, and these are the ones she picked out as the best. The glitchy, classical music is from one of the actual dance performances. Christopher, the choreographer, wanted the music to fracture over time, and while I can t fully explain it as well as he can, his piece was about people breaking free (or trying to escape) from time, from convention... maybe even from each other. So if you are wondering why it sounds like something is broken, well, now you know. If you want more information on the event, go to http://www.bfpchicago.com/ Formats available: Quicktime (.mov)Tags: renata prokel, 24, slideshow, chicago, 2007

New Dori Show Radio Player
from Kingpin/Ronin January 18, 2008
In addition to the Dubstep radio player which you can see and listen to on the right hand side of our blog, you can now see/listen to a player set up specifically for my friend Dori's show. It took a long time uploading over a year of radio shows to the internet archive, but, it works! And, if you want to embed it on your own site, here is the HTML to do it, just copy and paste: enjoy! Bass Kittens with Danja Koja, part 2
from Kingpin/Ronin January 18, 2008
Diggin through the vaults, I found this oddity... Danja Koja with Bass Kittens, circa 2003 or 2005, opening for vnv nation at Slim's in San Francisco, I think... although she's always been a little crazy, this was way back before Danja slipped into the really bad drugs, full-blown crystal meth insanity, and hanging out with cultists... its a shame because she was a good singer (in terms of genre), had decent stage presence, and was a good person at heart. Bass Kittens, of course, are still performing, but it just isn't the same without her. Yet another good talent ruined by drugs.Formats available: MPEG4 Video (.mp4)Tags: danja, koja, bass, kittens, san francisco, california, slims, music, video, electro, electronic, indie, pop

Boss Up Remix- Joe Black
from Kingpin/Ronin December 04, 2007
This is a track I remixed a while ago. I never really linked to it at all, but its been up for a while. I did it as a favor for Joe Black, a producer out of San Jose, and his MC crew. I was trying to get an old-school, mid-nineties, Bay Area sound to it. It was mostly an experiment in the technique, as I dont normally do 'thugsta'-type music. But, I think it turned out OK. Now as for the lyrics, well, Joe Black was the original producer, and had just emailed me the a capellas. All I know is the last MC was like, 13 years old, talkin about dissing So-So Def and Lil Bow Wow. It cracked me up. This was my first submission to the Internet Archive, before I did the whole Dubstep radio archive. This was my initial experiment with the creative commons audio setup. Any comments, good or bad, will be appreciated... http://www.archive.org/download/Boss_Up/track10_Rendered_vbr.mp3 Subscribe to kingpinronin by Email

Boomshot! A $200 Cannon!
from Kingpin/Ronin November 28, 2007
Here is some video of a homemade cannon. Its made of cast-iron, with a steel inner lining. Not too far from the town where I am at, there is a guy (there is always 'a guy') who works at a factory who will do custom forging of metals for you during downtime, usually third shift. Make your design for the cannon, give him the designs and pay for the metal (usually leftovers from what they are working with at the time). A few days later, you have a 'cast iron pipe' delivered to you, meaning no hole for the primer (place to put the fuse). That way, he can say all he sold you was a pipe ;) . Then you drill the hole, and now you have a cannon! Don't know how to design a cannon? Google it; there are plenty of places online to help you with that. This cannon was originally designed to be used on a pivot, large monopod, or tripod, for small boats and ships. Here, we have made a small wooden carriage to wheel it about on land. It can shoot projectiles, about the size of a golfball, a considerable distance, depending on the amount and type of powder used. At this size, there isn't a lot of recoil, but still decent velocity, for reasonable distances. You can get powder and fuse at many different places, including gun shows, or make your own recipe. There are plenty of places online that discuss powder recipes. The whole thing probably cost a couple hundred dollars. A few hundred dollars more, and you could probably get a cannon that could shoot something the size of a baseball. Making it this way is much cheaper than buying a complete, fancy cannon from a catalog, or having someone make a bronze cannon for you. Besides, why spend thousands of dollars on a pretty cannon when you are just going to muck it up by actually using it? We regularly use the cannon to announce 'cocktail hour', as you see here; a definitely interesting way to signal to people miles around that its time for them to drink! No, we don't waste projectiles announcing cocktail hour, we keep those for top secret ninja purposes, of course. ;) When not firing projectiles though, you still need something in the barrel on top of the powder; we usually use pieces of styrofoam and ram them down onto the powder, so it compresses properly when ignited, and you get a nice BOOMSHOT sound. Apologies for the sound on this, I only had a little nikon camera to record with, but trust me, it makes enough noise! Here is the youtube version of the video... Subscribe to kingpinronin by Email
