I m ashamed to admit that I grew up in Dallas and I know almost nothing about Wylie College. I traveled I-20 between Dallas and Shreveport enough times to be able to tell you about every speed trap but I know squat about Wylie College, which is located in Marshall, Tx off I-20, 21/2 hours east of Dallas on I-20. I even know some graduates of Wylie College but I didn t know that it was historically Black college. I didn t know that it was one of the first Black colleges west of the Mississippi. I didn t know anything of its Methodist tradition (even though I m a Methodist and went to Emory University a Methodist school). The history of Wylie College is very interesting. The story of the great debaters and Professor Melvin Tolson can be found here.
