Re-Vlog :: My Buddy Clark of ZipZapZop.com
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist September 28, 2008
ZipZapZop makes me laugh. Again. This is something that needs to be taught to younger generations along with how to make a grass whistle and other important things. Who knew? ZipZap says: Dancing Caterpillars seem to be a recurring theme here at ZipZapZop… This time, I discover that these little Eastern Tent Caterpillar pests (there were literally thousands upon thousands of them here in May) are quite responsive to sound vibrations. It makes me wonder if perhaps some kind of audio mechanism would keep them away… Formats available: Quicktime (.mov), Flash Video (.flv) Tags: Faux Press Art Metaphrasty

City Island Synchronicity
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist August 03, 2008
Found and was captivated by this film in late June, well before I knew the estimable Vanja Cernjul would be lighting Raymond's "City Island" movie. When I asked Vanja what project he was most proud of having lit, he said it was "Wristcutters". Synchronicity. [source] Tags: Faux Press Art Metaphrasty

Hello from the Sound Department via Vimeo
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist July 19, 2008
Hello from the Sound Department from Jan McLaughlin on Vimeo. Shozu auto-crossposts cellphone-created videos to Vimeo for me. Very nice-looking, and a different kind of community than the YouTube, to which Shozu also automatically uploads cellphone videos on my behalf. The downside? Tougher to keep track of overall hits. I don't personally care that much, but marketers and advertisers do. My guess is that in social media terms, responses count more than hits. I like what Hugh McLeod has to say about social objects. What are the social objects of a film-in-progress? What are "City Island" social objects? Perhaps audio, video & stills form a part of those objects. I would love to get Jeff Pulver to do some stories about "City Island" blogging efforts. My guess is there are 'concerns' among the beautiful intensity. Of course there are. It's the bleeding edge of the digital now. A Pulver breakfast @ "City Island" could rock for everyone. Insert brief PRAYER. [Vimeo] Tags: Faux Press Art Metaphrasty

Play Quicktime VersionWo..
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist June 30, 2008
Worked with composer Robert Miller on "Happy Tears" recently. While setting up a Google clipping service for the film, found Mikael Carlsson's site Upcoming Film Scores, where he mentions Miller and the fact that he scored two other films on which I've worked: "Trumbo" and "The Caller". Have not intersected much with composers before, but because Rip's "Happy Tears" character might have had to learn to sing and play a Miller tune, we spoke and emailed back and forth on technical issues for a while. Gratifying to learn that this is not the first time we've worked on the same projects. Small world. "Trumbo" is in New York and Los Angeles theaters starting June 27, 2008 - check HERE for show times. Based on what I've seen, it's something well worth seeing. Lessig's Not Running
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist February 26, 2008
[source] It's the correct decision, so the disappointment was fleeting. The netroots discourse begins. Heard the word 'netroots' - as in 'netroots movement' - for the first time yesterday in an KUOW's "The Conversation" podcast that asks a distinguished panel to address the nature of freedom on the web. "What is Freedom on the Web?" In context of the legal censure of wikileaks. [KUOW source] . DIGRESSION: Whistleblowing without fear of reprisal - and further - with reward - will be an essential not-yet-culturally-supported tool in combating the corruption Lessig has vowed to fight. How may culture support that behavior? Tags: Faux Press Art Metaphrasty

Been playing with Mogulus for a while toward live broadcast options. This fellow has created a workflow we're talking about over in Seesmic. Mogulus has a long way to go, but the seeds are there. Film = Sculpture = Architecture :: WARNING :: Body Images
from Surviving Depression :: Grassroots Strategies February 04, 2008
WARNING: There's some near-full and full-frontal nudity in the artworks. Revisiting some motion pictures that were at one point or another diverted and lost to VHS.What did it mean to my survival to give these films my entire attention for the better part of a year? It was only in returning to them after some time away that I realize the repercussions:I'd looked closely at one of my p*rps (made him into a kind of clown) looked at the unacknowledged anger with my mother's unwitting betrayal I was easily able to forgive my mom and dad. It wasn't their fault. Demi, the painter responsible for the image @ right, had admonished me to be 'honest' when she gave it to me. Looked at that painting for years before the capacity for honesty sunk in. Demi's a survivor who's used art as healing tool, too. TECHNICAL NOTES: Thanks to Ms. Jen Simmons and an eyetv 250 Plus, I'm able to digitize and revisit that footage. The soundtrack's right channel offers a director's commentary. Below are links to two of the original, unadulterated poetry filmworks:"Yoing" - written by Mikki LeMoine"Mommie's Coming Back" - written by Jan McLaughlin"The Psychic Poets Show" - written by Jan McLaughlinThe first two were originally shot on 35mm black & white stock - the same stock that Spielberg's 1993 "Schindler's List" was shot on. Our production performed pre-Schindler Beta tests for Kodak. The other - "Psychic Poets" - was shot to a Beta deck.Have lost touch with a lot of these people, in large part because of the depression. No regrets. Re-Vlog :: Love Medicine
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist January 21, 2008
Ms. Sanders speaks succinctly & softly to wounds and healing through art & consciousness. Difficult to visualize the body as sacred. Orgasm as sacred. Whew. Working on a video art piece that deals with body image and will post tomorrow. SPOILER: In the meantime, if you're squicked by gentle, soothing words on the subject of the body, you should not play this fine piece. Ancient wisdom. Tags: Faux Press Art Metaphrasty

Frank Langella for Oscar :: Starting Out in the Evening
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist January 16, 2008
Frank Langella and "Starting Out in the Evening" will be in Boston this Sunday, January 20, 2007. For my Boston friends. If you're interested in acting, to hear Frank speak on the subject as he is honored by the Boston Society of Film Critics who awarded him Best Actor for 2007 should prove enlightening. Enclosed is an interview with Mr. Langella from the American Theater Wing, founder of the Tony Awards, on the subject of his Tony Award-winning Broadway role as Nixon in "Frost/Nixon", a role he played while simultaneously filming "Starting Out in the Evening". Vote for Frank for the Oscar. [source] Tags: Faux Press Art Metaphrasty

Work Hard :: "Starting Out in the Evening"
from Vlog of a Faux Journalist December 07, 2007
In theaters. Go see. I hear it's great. Was regrettably working and ill for the crew screening. This was made in 18 days. Astonishing. Met some of the most amazing people. Going to the 4:10 screening today in Montclair. Can't wait to see it. Here's an interview with the director, Andrew Wagner: "Oscar" keeps being mentioned in connection with Frank, who's a complete master of his craft and fine gentleman. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for him and for us. [Salon.com Review] [Rolling Stone Review] [More Clips / Trailers @ Yahoo!] [Yahoo!
