Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Pavel Savor, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, talks with Bloomberg's Mark Crumpton about the outlook for private equity investment. The California Public Employees' Retirement System doled out 62 percent less cash to buyout companies in the first seven months of the year and pressed for fee cuts as firms, including Apollo Management LP, struggled to revive dealmaking. Bloomberg's Jonathan Keehner also speaks. (Source: Bloomberg)

The M&A landscape has changed dramatically since the rules governing merger reviews were adopted in 1992. that's one reason why the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission are reviewing the Horizontal Merger Guidelines. As Michael Cohen, an antitrust partner with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, writes in the current issue of The Deal magazine, "the guidelines attempt to give corporations and counsel transparency and predictability regarding merger clearance." In this edition of Inside the Deal, Cohen says, unfortunately, the guidelines in their current form make those objectives difficult to achieve.See the video below or download it at iTunes. - Suzanne Stevens

As we head into the deepest recession since the 14th century, a new report published today by the Mutual Agony Foundation reveals an unprecedented level of cooperation between employers and staff in solving financial, and personal, problems together. The recent situation at BA where almost 7,000 workers agreed to participate in the company s work for free initiative is just one example of the solidarity workers are showing employers. Now BA has announced it will build upon its success and merge with Honda to form a new super company known as Bonding plc. But how have these breakthroughs been achieved? Our WORLDbytes reporters were granted exclusive access to film a town hall staff meeting at the newly formed recession-proof, super company to find out.
