My younger sister visited almost 3 years ago on 9/11/05. I was excited to see her and take pictures of her because she lives in MA. I took one picture while on the subway but was fiercely interrupted by a homeless black woman who shouted "You can't take pictures of ME! No no no!" And I tried to ease her fear by explaining that I was taking pictures of my sister sitting next to her. The woman began to complain and she started to complain about nothing related to my picture taking. In an effort to let her know I understood, I sang her complaints back to her with heart - I couldn't have my camera up, facing her, but I did have it on and I decided to record the session. It started out as a black and white thing... and turned out well... let's just say, many a soul felt saved on that train ride that day. Ironically, this one is full of surprises. I sung "No Surprises" by Radiohead here live as usual, and then added a delay. This is the saddest song I have ever heard in my life, and I have always found it extremely haunting. Please note that it is very sad and disturbing before you watch it. A song about desiring apathy and emotional death as a last recourse from suffering, I think we can all identify with this lowest of feelings.
