KUOW's Ruby de Luna explains how it works. 12:20 p.m. Mammogram Guidelines The U.S. Prevention Services Task Force has reversed its guidelines and now says that most women should start regular breast cancer screening at age 50, not 40. We'll talk to a UW researcher who was part of the study recommending the change. 12:40 p.m. 'Denialism' A majority of Americans say they will not get the swine flu vaccine. It's an example of what New Yorker writer Michael Specter calls denialism: an irrational predisposition to ignore logic and scientific evidence. Denialism is Specter's new book, subtitled How Irrational Thinking Hinders Scientific Progress, Harms The Planet, and Threatens our Lives. He looks at the reasons for public doubt, like the Vioxx scandal, but argues that we've gone beyond reasonable skepticism to a harmful cynicism.
