Are You Upgrading To Snow Leopard?

Are You Upgrading To Snow Leopard?

from me on blip.tv (beta) on August 26, 2009
Duration: 335
In this video, I discuss the recent announcement by Apple regarding Snow Leopard's August 28th release date. My main question is to you is are you going to upgrade? Snow Leopard has a lot of improvements under the hood and given the $29 upgrade price, there's very little reason not to upgrade. Application compatibility will likely be a hurdle for most users, but most of my applications will work on Snow Leopard. There are a few that I'm not sure about (Ubercaster is a big one). So, are you going to upgrade?

Q&A: Attach An External Monitor To A Macbook

Q&A: Attach An External Monitor To A Macbook

from me on blip.tv (beta) on June 13, 2009
Duration: 350
In this video, I answer a question from @LudinIII - http://twitter.com/LudinIII - who asks "Can I attach a monitor to my macbook while still using the laptop monitor, and how do I do this?" Thanks for the question, LundinIII. Thankfully, it's pretty simple to connect an external monitor with Mac OS X. The operating system recognizes it fairly quickly and the system preferences are intuitive enough to figure out how to extend your desktop. Thanks for the question.

Q&A: How To Watch Live TV On A Mac

Q&A: How To Watch Live TV On A Mac

from me on blip.tv (beta) on June 13, 2009
Duration: 315
In this video, I answer a question via email from Sonny and he asks "How to watch live TV on a Mac?" Thanks for the question Sonny. There are several ways to watch live TV on Mac, but my product of choice is the El Gato USB Hybrid http://u.nu/3yeb . You can simply connect your cable or satellite box to this device and you'll have live TV on your Mac within an hour. You can also buy a Slingbox and use the SlingPlayer software on Mac OS X and watch live TV that way as well. These are a couple of popular options which I think will help you. Thanks for the question, Sonny.

Q&A: Dual Booting Vs Virtual Machines On Mac OS X

Q&A: Dual Booting Vs Virtual Machines On Mac OS X

from me on blip.tv (beta) on May 13, 2009
Duration: 328
In this video, I answer a question from @mrskaterich on Twitter - http://twitter.com/mrskaterich - who asks " what would you say is better bootcamp or parallels desktop?" Thanks for the question, @mrskaterich. It's not a question of which is better, but what purpose it will be used for. Bootcamp, which is used to dual boot Windows on Mac OS X, is an attractive solution if you want to dedicate all of your machine's resources to the OS. Parallels, which is a software package which allows you to run Windows in a virtual machine, is an attractive solution if you wish to Windows alongside Mac OS X and you don't mind sharing resources. That's pretty much it. Games require a lot of resources, so naturally Bootcamp is a better solution in terms of performance. Popular Windows programs like Microsoft Office do not require a great deal of resources, so you can utilize Parallels to run those programs alongside Mac OS X. It's purely situational. Thanks for the question @mrskaterich!
