On August 6th, 2008, V.I.P. Services organized a media tour of the Ginn sur Mer project in West End, Grand Bahama. Be sure to watch this engaging video coverage by The Bahamas Weekly News Team as Mr. Bobby Ginn, CEO Ginn Resorts, reveals that, "There is a lot of uncertainty and a lot of rumours, and what we are going to try to do today is divide the rumours from the fact..." Mr. Ginn goes on to say, "Up until now, it's been clean up and dig up. We've moved dirt... and moved debris for two and a half years now... That's now coming to an end... and we're going to shut up the naysayers when we put the buildings up here and move forward with that as the next phase..." Addressing the rumours involving the company's financing, Mr. Ginn speaks specifically about the issue of a $675 million loan by Credit-Suisse that is in default. With respect to the CS loan default, Ginn goes on to say, "It's a non-recourse loan. It's about private investors who made a private investment in it. It's not a bank loan, it's not FDIC insured," he said. "If something goes wrong, and we're continuing to assume that it's not... all the money to develop all of the facilities is in place. It's there now, it's in an escrow account, you can't get any safer than that."

Grand Bahama Island - The Bahamas Weekly News Team takes you on an exclusive video tour of the Garden of the Groves now under restoration. The Garden of the Groves was considered one of the finest botanical Gardens in the Caribbean before the hurricanes of 2004. The gardens were devastated and they have sat untended since then, that is until two wonderful people decided to bring them back. Erika Gates of Grand Bahama Nature Tours and Michelle Hanson formed Bahamas Parks, Gardens & Recreation and have been working as the dynamic duo on the return of the Garden of the Groves. In this video Erika and Michelle take you through the gardens and explain what changes to expect, what improvements have been made, and you'll get a peak at some turtles that survived the storms. The Garden has more than 10,000 species of flowers, shrubs, trees, and exotic plant life. Along its shaded, winding paths are several waterfalls, many native birds and an old-fashioned chapel. It will be the home of the Grand Bahama Labyrinth, now being constructed. It has been (and will be again) an ideal spot for photographs, weddings, events or simply a serene setting for quiet reflection. Stay tuned for opening announcements and events coming in late summer 2008. The Garden of the Groves has been sorely missed by tourists and locals alike, and the return of the Garden has been highly anticipated and anxiously awaited. Hats off to the dedication and hard work of Gates and Hanson!

Grand Bahama Revisited 2003 was a historical, retrospective, temporary exhibit. It highlighted Grand Bahama Island s rich and colorful past, from the by-gone era of The Lucayans, to the freed Africans, to the pioneers who transformed our Cinderella Island from miles of pine forest into established settlements and towns, thriving industries and tourist destination. The interest of the people to learn about the island, resulted in the committee s continuing efforts with research, interviews, explorations and presentations. The Grand Bahama Heritage Foundation is duly registered (April 2008) as a foundation in accordance with the Foundations Act, 2004. The goal of the foundation is to build The Heritage Museum and Gallery, A window into our past. The Heritage, Museum and Gallery will provide an opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage of Grand Bahama island. Artists and historians will be brought together to capture moments in our past through interactive programs, such as Artists in Residence, changing exhibits of local artifacts and film. Included in the Gallery will be a boutique of original Bahamian products made exclusively for the Gallery, including wearable and fine art, jewelry and books. We have embarked on a long journey which will require a lot of commitment and determination. We seek your support in building this lasting commemorating monument of this island.
