Washington residents who can't afford health insurance on their own now get coverage through the state's Basic Health Plan. About 100,000 people are enrolled in the public subsidized program. But that number could soon change. Last month the state decided to raise rates to offset costs; a move that's expected to cause as many as 17,000 people to drop out of the program. Later this summer, members will find out just how much more they'll have to pay to stay on Basic Health. KUOW's Ruby de Luna spoke to one Seattle area woman to find out how the rate hike could affect her.

Antoine Purnell still remembers his first visit to the dentist: When I seen him pull out the needle and asked me to open my mouth, it wasn't happening. Actually I ran out the room and my brother in law Dave had to come get me from the car, because I actually locked myself in the car, because I didn't want to get the shot, and I was crying. Today, Antoine becomes a member of the first graduating class of Big Picture High School. And he wants to be a dentist. Antoine told KUOW's Phyllis Fletcher he never would have figured that out if he hadn't gone to Big Picture High School in SeaTac.
