Let's begin a legal health care reform revolution.

Let s begin the health care revolution through legal action and initiatives. We must see health care as essential to human life as is the oxygen we breathe. In the 1940 s a physician stood up and said that Medicine had become too complex for one physician to conquer. That was the beginning of the specialization in Medicine we see today. Specialization has oversold itself, has fragmented care and has contributed to the ever-escalating health care costs. In the commercialization of medicine, a lot of industry has risen between the physician and patient that do not contribute to care but extract from the precious health care dollar. Imagine if suddenly an enormous industry developed between the consumer and the food market and arbitrary laws were invented that forced consumers to buy their groceries only through approved intermediaries or third parties. That is, consumers would not be able to legally shop around for the best value by comparing the prices offered at various markets. This is exactly what has happened in Medicine. Before the inception of Medicare and Medicaid, the American Medical Association (AMA) was staunchly opposed to these programs and labeled them as representing the beginning of socialized Medicine. Hospitals of the late 1960s and early 1970s were swimming downstream in the great river of medical revenue occasioned by Medicaid, Medicare, and the rise of health care benefits for the employed. As a result of poorly planned benevolent social programs, the health care system grew to the unprecedented level we see today. The political system was heavily lobbied and many laws were passed that effectively prohibit open competition in the health care industry today. Intermediary insurance groups have developed that charge outrageous premiums and yet pay very little money to the primary care provider. The political system adamantly wants to continue to protect these insurance groups as legitimate and necessary intermediaries between the physician and patient. I have a great contempt for socialized capitalism as seen with the drug makers, health plans, and in terms of war, Halliburton. As a free enterpriser, I have been able to donate to the uninsured over 20 million dollars in actual health care and I have saved the state of California over $100 million. In the early 1990s, I developed an outpatient medical system that I was going to market directly to the patients and small companies. My plan was very simple. I wanted to charge a fixed fee of $25 per adult and $l5 per child per month for all outpatient care. On behalf of the patients, I planned to negotiate with hospitals and insurance companies for a major medical plan that covered catastrophic conditions at a minimal cost, $150 per family per month. My plan was very sound and was well received by the community. To my astonishment, I found that there are laws that made my plan illegal. A consumer may be made to pay $2,000 for an MRI of the head while I could ve been able to negotiate the cost down to $400. A small mind understands profit. A greater mind understands divinity and righteousness. The health care system is grossly inefficient and there is no consequence to stupidity or the failure to diagnose properly. A patient, at a great cost, may have to access the system on various occasions in order to get the proper care. The system does not differentiate between a mediocre provider and a superior one. It reimburses both the same irrespective of effectiveness or quality. Price fixing or price control as dictated by Medicare is flawed. How do doctors get around the mere $38 paid for seeing a complex elderly patient? Doctors may turn a minor case into a major case through the hospital syndrome or high-ticket care. We must use the rule of law to effect health care changes. We must litigate, litigate and litigate until we succeed. It is unfair that the uninsured is made to pay up to 10 times more than what Medicare or a PPO plan allows. To address this discrepancy, I need advocate lawyers in order to change such practice through the courts. 40,000 to 50,000 patients die yearly in the process of getting a procedure they did not need. The following are some of the procedures that we know are commonly performed but are often not necessary, Heart Bypass Surgeries (CABGs), Coronary Stents, Back Surgeries, Hysterectomies and the infamous Carpal Tunnel Surgeries (usually industrial). By applying Murphy s Law that a patient is likely to die from a procedure he did not need, we can initiate the legal action after the adverse outcome. For specific non-emergency procedures, patients cannot really give an informed or legal consent by virtue of future legal precedent. This topic will be continued. Luis Lomeli MD/Beta/

Why does the world seem to hate Americans?

Why do people in the world seem to hate us? What do you know about the Central Intelligence Agency s (CIA) covert actions at home and the world? We will never know about many of these covert events because they become classified. What do you know about our Bill of Rights? What do you know about the wars engendered by religion, ideology and OIL? George W. Bush, the President, managed to kill nothing less than our Bill of Rights, Habeas Corpus. In law, the Habeas Corpus writ is directed to someone who has custody of a person, ordering him or her to bring the person before the court issuing the writ and to justify why the person is detained in custody. Students at public school must be properly educated about our Bill of Rights and Constitution so they can learn to protect the freedom we all take for granted. We as Americans are guilty of genocide. We first almost killed off the American Indians, and then we dropped the atomic bombs on Japan. In southeast Asia, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, we are directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions of people. In Iraq, George W. Bush and his cronies fabricated the pretext for war for oil. The neoconservative camp poses a great threat to our liberty under the guises of conservationism. Some individuals continue to lobby for the war in Iraq as they invest and profit out of defense industry stocks. It is pathological that individuals, usually seemingly proper, seek to profit at the expense of human suffering. Many of my patients, usually working class young adults, joined our armed forces and were shipped to Iraq. Some have died; some have been maimed forever. How am I to feel when I know that I once saved many of these soldiers as children from a terrible illness and now our government places them in harm s way for oil? If we study the minds of the people in politics and government, we may find a lot of psychopathology. We can logically conclude that the actual psychopaths are often those in power, not in jail. Our fellow Americans joined the armed forces for noble causes after the 9/11 attack. It was a deplorable terrorist act that is to be condemned. Americans rallied around a poorly minded and ill-prepared president and many joined the armed forces for honorable reasons. Some joined the armed forces because of reduced economic opportunity in our service economy. Some joined the armed forces to help pay off their enslaving credit card debt and many of these soldiers were brought back in a casket. If democracy is good for us, it should be good for the world. An ignorant and oppressed population cannot defend its freedom and is incapable of electing a president that can inspire us, promote world peace and envision new opportunities for our young people. What follows are some of the events that should help you see the world in the manner that I do. This is a partial history of the Central Intelligence Agency s (C.I.A.) presence in Iran in the early 1950 s. Britain, fearful of Iran s plans to nationalize its oil industry, came up with the idea for the coup in 1952 and pressed the United States to mount a joint operation to remove the Prime Minister. Iranians working for the C.I.A. and posing as Communists harassed religious leaders and staged the bombing of one cleric s home in a campaign to turn the country s Islamic religious community against the government. The Shah, for a token amount, $5 million, was eventually installed as the King of Kings and ruled Iran until his overthrow by the Iranian people on February 11, 1979. The demonisation of Iran by the current administration and its cronies frightens me. Who are the Arabs? Historically, Arab science, astronomy and mathematics was a bridge between the ancient world of the Greek, Roman and Byzantine Empires and the modern world ushered in by the European Renaissance. The Arabs gave the world algebra, trigonometry for navigation, the use of sine and cosine tables, water pumps, curved mirror and lenses. Students should study the list of Arabic contribution to the world, including Medicine. The Che Syndrome resulted from U.S. policy in Cuba. The Cuban dictator, Batista, with U.S. support, planted the seeds for a revolution. Batista was the US-friendly dictator that was eventually overthrown by Fidel Castro. Our very policy in Cuba gave rise to its leftist leanings, Marxism. In 1962, U.S. President John F. Kennedy threatened an all-out nuclear retaliation against the Soviet Union after Soviet nuclear missiles were detected in Cuba. The two countries were preparing to annihilate each other, and perhaps the human race. This should be the beginning of your worldly education. The demagogues that see profit at the expense of human life may easily manipulate the ignorant or uneducated. Luis Lomeli MD/Beta

Girl pregnant by father, three times-unpunished!

The father impregnated his daughter three times. If squeaking beds could weep, if dour walls could talk, if windows could shout to the world, humanity would hear the horrors that so many children experience in seemingly normal homes. It is time to console those girls that were once molested or raped by their fathers. Society must punish the perpetrators before God does, and we must begin to openly teach our children not to repeat the sins of their forefathers. Religion with all of its morality has chosen to ignore these common crimes against innocent and vulnerable children. A 41-year-old woman, Mary, came to see me for a generalized itch. She had been to many doctors but had not improved with various treatments. The day she came to see me, she came prepared with a list of issues that she wanted me to address. After my exam, I calmly sat her down. After reviewing her notes, I said to Mary, It must be really hard to tell a doctor in a hurry about the deep pain you must feel inside? As soon as I finished my sentence, she began to cry. Sobbing, Mary said that she feared her bloody nose might be due to cancer. I then asked her, What else is making you cry? With a torrent of emotion, she reported how her father had continually raped her from age 12 to 18. During those six turbulent years, she became pregnant three times and miscarried. After the last miscarriage, she eloped with her current husband. She had only told her husband the year before about her sexual abuse. She now regretted having told her husband because he was now blaming her for the sexual abuse and felt that she perhaps had enjoyed it. By the end of the visit, I educated her husband about sexual abuse, and Mary left relieved. Mary inspired me to make the music and video. The music expresses the many painful stories I have heard from many women that were once sexually abused by a brother, an uncle, a father or stepfather. I try to understand why religion doesn t concern itself with real issues, like sexual abuse and Universal Healthcare. Instead, religion focuses on two trite issues: Anti-Gay campaigns and Pro-Life issues. The latter two issues are really hatred campaigns against Gays (as nature makes them) and women that choose to terminate a pregnancy (a private right). In my battles against poverty, I have not seen religious people do what I do for the sake of humanity and without proselytizing (trying to gain converts). In fact, when I speak in public, the first thing I announce, I am not taking new patients. In terms of abortion, God s nature is the biggest abortionist we know. Over half of pregnancies do not take. Nature discards a pregnancy it deems unfit for normal life. In the case of Mary, nature intervened because incestuous pregnancies are more likely to produce defective fetuses. Laws prohibit sex between close relatives for obvious reasons. Let s revisit the Bible, Genesis 20:36, Thus both daughters of Lot were with child by their father. According to the text, God had destroyed the world and only Lot and his two daughters survived. The daughters, according to the Bible got their father drunk in order to become pregnant, for there were no other men around. The father, Lot, never consented to the sex. If we study this topic, we may begin to understand how many men will get women drunk in order to rape them. Is it justified in the Bible? Mary, my patient, became pregnant with child by father. Does the Bible justify it? How does the Bible justify the death penalty, the religious stance against family planning (including the use of condoms) and the issue of masturbation? You may wish to read King James s Genesis from 38; 7 to 38; 15. Judah s firstborn son, Er, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord killed him. Onan, Judah s second son then had to marry his late brother s widow, Tamar. The Lord became displeased with Onan when he went into his brother s wife, and emitted on the ground. The Lord killed him as well for wasting his seed. Tamar, now widowed twice, had to leave town. Judah went to the market place and tells a woman he meets there, a harlot?, please let me come into you. Judah did not know that he was entering Tamar since he did not take her veil off during intercourse. Reading the Bible may help us understand why women have, for so long, been treated as second to Man. Tamar was a biblical victim, poor woman. Circumcision is justified in Genesis, 17; 9, when Abraham made a deal with God and circumcised himself and his many slaves. Can you imagine the poor slaves walking around in fear cupping their private parts and saying, "No Abraham, No ? We must study the Bible with intelligence, not ignorance. As Plato said, Genesis is poetry and expresses Man s original desire to understand our world. Luis Lomeli MD
