For some Traverse City area residents, going green is getting cheaper, thanks to the work of a local electric company. Traverse City Light and Power is encouraging its customers to switch from traditional light bulbs to more efficient compact fluorescent bulbs. To help customers pay for the new bulbs, the power company is including four $2-off coupons with customers' current bills. The coupons are good at numerous local retailers. Compact Fluorescent bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than traditional bulbs, and they last ten times longer. According to those at Traverse City Light and Power, this leads to energy savings and benefits the environment, while at the same time lowering customers' electric bills.

The City of Cadillac is reminding residents that with winter weather hitting the area, home and business owners have a responsibility to keep a clear path for pedestrians. The Cadillac City Code states that the occupant of any building, or the owner of any unoccupied building or lot, must keep sidewalks in front of their property clear of snow and ice to allow pedestrian use. If there are no sidewalks, the occupant or owner is required to clear a path where a sidewalk would otherwise be; keeping a clear path makes travel easier for pedestrians and helps increase safety by preventing people from walking along the roads.
