A product of the Pick-Up Band (P.U.B.) League, Turducken took their Modest Mouse cover from the Ivory Jacks competition and expanded it to an entire set....and did, rather marvelously. Harkening back to the older days of Modest Mouse they ended their performance with the song, "Different City."

New blood, Young Fangs, did a 3-song coverage of Neutral Milk Hotel for the 2nd to last band of the evening. Good energy by the boys for music that could otherwise be a little low.

The new ska band to town, Eating for Two, chose the daunting task of covering arguably one of the greatest ska bands of all-time: Streetlight Manifesto. There were some bumps along the way, but it can only be expected for such an endeavor. The 7-piece is sure to only improve as Father Time does his duty... Paper Scissors put together a mingling of Halloween-ish tunes. Ranging from Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters" to my selection of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper". Feel free to clap along or bring a cowbell~ Paper Scissors myspace

New duo, Conspirators of Love, threw together a lil' rendition of their own of the T.V. show, "The Mighty Boosh". Just as odd as their clothing, they kicked off the 9.5th Great Cover in grand fashion: pushing further music 'diversity' into the mix. fbxshows.com fbxmusic.wordpress.com

Something Evil in their usual manner for the Cover-ups...played something a little evil. Dethklok in the past and Metallica today, the boys put together a little medley of their tunes...in an order they pleased...and get this. They never practiced ONCE together on these songs before the show. The extraordinary 8-piece Haifa put together a remarkable slew of Beirut songs at this year's All-Ages Great Cover-up. Probably one of the most solid acts I've ever seen at the Cover-Ups. I selected their rendition of Beirut's collaboration with Ghostface Killah. "A discussion: ePortfolios - how are they supporting 21st Century learners?" is the recording of a conversation that occurred at the eFest meets Teaching and Learning Conference (http://efest-teach-learn.ning.com/). The discussion covered a range of themes, issues and potentials, with particular reference to the tertiary education and vocational education and training sector. The discussion was facilitated by Justin Sampson from Ako Aotearoa, who plays a key part in the ePortfolio Community of Practice hosted by Ako (http://akoaotearoa.ac.nz/communities/eportfolios-new-zealand).
