Roberto Jovel, Policy and Research Coordinator, Ontario Council of Agencies Serving ImmigrantsRoberto Jovel is Policy and Research Coordinator at the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI). His academic background is in sociology and philosophy, and he is currently a PhD candidate in semiotics at Universit du Qu bec Montr al. He has carried research-action at the interface of sexual ethics and human rights in several countries in Central America, through collaboration with sexual and gender diversity community-based organizations. He has also developed transnational networking initiatives for advocacy around gender/sexuality rights. He was active within Coalition MultiMundo, a network of community-based LGBTIQ2 organizations, groups and activists from racialized communities in Montreal. Before coming to Toronto to work with OCASI, he was Settlement Policy Director at the Canadian Council for Refugees, where he coordinated the development of the CCR's Policy on Anti-Homophobia, Anti-Heterosexism and Anti-Transphobia.
