www.EmploymentCrossing.comAlmost 100 employees of Montana ski resort Moonlight Basin will lose their jobs today.The layoffs are due to a cash shortage, after the Rocky Mountain ranch and ski area’s lender Lehman Brothers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month.The layoffs are painful, but necessary, Moonlight said in a news release. The resort said it will try to open for the winter ski season. An estimated 90 people will be affected by the layoffs.Moonlight Basin CEO Lee Poole is trying to find alternative financing, and added that Moonlight is a strong asset with a solid brand .Moonlight Basin, just west of Big Sky Resort, opened in 2002. This is an eight point increase from August. The second most cited factor was terrorism and national security which was cited by fourteen percent of the people registered to vote. Note, however, that this poll was conducted from September 12th to the 16th the period of time that Lehman Brothers collapsed and the biggest one-day stock market drop in seven years occurred. As the presidential election approaches, Barack Obama supporters will be happy to hear that sixty percent of voters are pretty confident that he has the ability to handle the economy, while fifty-three percent are confident in McCain. The unemployment rate in the United States increased over the past year and a half and in August it even exceeded six percent, which is the highest it has been in five years.
