Download American Cliche #154 After 11 days and 4 trips across the United States, I m back home in Santa Barbara for an extended period of time. Beyond missing Kim, Emma, and Mia it just feels really good to be back in my own home. This past week I was in Washington DC doing some work for an organization called the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. Meso, as I ve learned that it is called, is a form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Before this week I pictured lots of 70 year-old men that worked in factories getting this disease. I ve since learned that millions and millions and millions of homes and thousands of schools in the US and hundreds of products we use in our everyday lives contain asbestos. In fact, I learned because my childhood elementary school was built on a landfill containing asbestos that I could be at risk. Pretty scary stuff to say the least. Anyway, I just wanted you to know how I spent my week and the extraordinary people I met that showed me what true courage is. from Where's the Outrage?
March 11, 2008

So, what now?  Here s Elliott Spitzer s statement (video below).  I ll have more on this later on tonight.  What I will say now is - Larry Craig and David Vitter.  These are both Republican Senators who have been associated with sex scandals in one way or another.  They are both still sitting in the Senate.  If you are going to force Elliott Spitzer to leave office then these 2 shining examples of right wing hypocrisy should be forced out of office also. david vitter, Domestic Issues, elliott spitzer, hypocrisy, larry craig, Party Politics, republican senators, sex scandals
Armstrong Williams comments on NYT’s ethicsArmstrong Williams comments on NYT’s ethics
from Where's the Outrage?
February 23, 2008

Okay, wait. I need to stop laughing. I need to compose myself. Armstrong Williams is the guy who was found to have pocketed over $240,000 from the Department of Education. He was the one who pushed No Child Left Behind on his talk show and never acknowledged that he was on Bush s payroll. So, now, he is criticizing the New York Times about their John McCain story. I m starting to laugh again. Look if Armstrong Williams is Superman and he is not, then ethics is his kryptonite. He shouldn t come within a mile of anyone with a microphone and a question about ethics. He simply isn t credible. He can t make himself credible. He can t wave a magic wand and become credible. That ship has sailed. MSNBC should be ashamed for digging him up. Now, about the NYT. I m not sure why the NYT sat on this story for a couple of months but they did. First of all, the reaction to the New York Times story has been overwhelming. The New York Times has received over 2400 comments on their website. I have been following online blogs and newspapers for years. I have never seen 2400 comments to anything on any website. It is an amazing response. It is a type of response that raises a red flag. Someone sent out an e-mail and asked people to berate or chastise the New York Times. I don t know this for a fact but that number of comments is way out of proportion to what that story should ve gotten. Secondly, if the story come out back in December, when Drudge said the New York Times had the story, what would have happened? John McCain would ve been dead in the water. Let s remember a few things back in June - August, John McCain s campaign was in serious trouble. They weren t raising any money. He just fired a bunch of staff. His campaign chairman in Florida had just been arrested for doing some Larry Craig type of activity in some public restroom. If the New York Times had released an article in December John McCain would not be running for president now. Therefore, the New York Times did him a favor by holding the article until his campaign was stronger. I just can t get the image of Lauren Bacall or Patricia Neil out of my mind. In case you missed the wonderful vintage commercials that John Q Sanchez put up on the website earlier this week go watch them now. Marc and I love to imitate the gravelly voices of Hollywood s leading ladies shilling de-CAFF-inated coffee and aspirin in television commercials of yesteryear. Today is Valentine s Day and if you re in love, single, slutty or celibate, we ve got you covered. Roses are overpriced and full of pesticides, diamonds fund wars and chocolate just promotes child slavery in Africa, so what is THE socially responsible present to give to someone you love this Valentine s Day? A firecracker RED Feast of Fools t-shirt and mug of course! The t-shirts are made on sweat-shop free labor by American Apparel and printed in our own back yard by Sharprint in the U.S. of Ayyyyyy! A portion of the proceeds go to support the Trevor Project, the nations premier suicide 24-hour hotline for GLBT youth. 1-866-4-U-TREVOR. Click here to get your mug and t-shirt now. I believe that any day is a good day to celebrate passion and love. But some folks are just party poopers. A New Zeland florist is refusing to sell red roses on Valentine s Day because she thinks they are a rip off. Flowers.com is charging almost $100 for a dozen! The Saudi Arabian government is cracking down on people sending each other roses, or gifts for the holiday, saying it s un-Islamic and promotes extra-marital sex. Don t get any ideas City of San Francisco! After all, last year they canceled Halloween, vegans that overrun the city try to kill Thanksgiving and a loose killer Tiger spoiled Christmas. I can easily imagine people wanting to shut down Valentine s Day arguing that the day spreads sexually transmitted diseases. You can hear them say Valentines Day stands for V.D. does it not? Somebody who s getting a spanking this V.D. is Ida-ho Senator Larry Craig, now world famous for getting arrested last summer while he was cruising for sex in a men s bathroom at the Minneapolis airport. Just in time for Valentine s Day, the Senate Ethics Committee released a Public Letter of Admonition shaking their finger at Craig for trying to use his political stature as a Senator to weasel out of getting arrested for public indecency. Does the irony escape this man? After all, Larry Craig was one of the most vocal politicians to attack President Bill Clinton s sexual escapades. He s stood in the way of laws protecting GLBT folks and by these actions has fostered a sexually intolerant atmosphere. I wonder what he s getting for Valentine s Day this year? Move over Larry Craig! Scandal just got a new best friend: conservative, closeted State Rep. Richard Curtis. (NOTE: We apologize for getting his political job confused on the show, he s not a Senator folks. My apologies.) Joining the ever growing list of hypocritical Republicans who vote against gay rights but just can t get enough of the man on man sex, last week Washington State Rep. Curtis got into a heap of trouble when a hook-up went horribly wrong and claims to have found himself being extorted by the man he had sex with. Not one to let Halloween end on Oct. 31, according to The Columbian newspaper, Rep. Curtis loves to spice things up: The police report contains an account of how Curtis allegedly donned women’s clothing, red stockings and a black sequined lingerie top before engaging in a sex act at the store. He continued to wear them throughout the night under his clothing. Hot! So what does Cody Castagna, his stud who may have been for hire, have to say about all this? Castagna said at a press conference Tuesday: I feel that, honestly, I’m being wrongly accused and that (Curtis) is using his power to take it off of him and put it on me. He has completely changed what actually happened and turned it around for his favor. Marc thinks this is going to fade away, much like the political career of Rep. Curtis and the general public opinion on the Republican party. Cody will probably be offered a lucrative adult film contract which he will turn down and start his own Italian Stallion peek-a-boo website. We think Cody is hot, don t you? Not $1,000 dollars worth, but maybe a steak dinner and a nice bottle of chianti. Move over cigarettes! Cancer just got a new best friend: bacon. This has not been a good week for America s favorite pork product as a recent World Cancer Research Fund study found that eating red meat, and processed meats like bacon, pastrami and salami (please wait a moment while I drool a little) run the high risk of causing bowel cancer. What s really torturous about the news article is the way they used THE most delicious image of bacon to torture the reader. Not surprisingly, a bogus meat lobby group, American Meat Institute calls the study hogwash. Why does bacon need a lobby? If scientists said eating bacon causes immediate and violent death, they would still have to take bacon away from American s cold dead hands. Move over Jesus! There is a God just for gay people and he lives in Taiwan. His name is Ta Yeh and he s out of the closet. Taoist gays living in Taiwan are now turning to the Rabbit God Ta Yeh, once a gay guy who got killed for cruising a ruling official in 18th-century China in the bathroom. The greater gods took pity on him and named him the rabbit god. Because he s not too popular of a deity, people worship him hoping the Rabbit God will have more time to listen to their prayers and deliver the man of their dreams. He s like the ugly girl at the prom who will put out at the end of the night because she s starved for attention. Suck it Jesus, Ta Yeh is my new God! Join Marc Felion and me, Fausto Fernós as we talk about skanky but hot celebrities, glow-in-the-dark shrimp and setting up a plastic Christmas tree. There are only 51 days left till Christmas. We re looking for some skanky indie Holiday themed songs to play on the show in December, any ideas? Congratulations Glenn! Your comment #4059 wins today s Feast of Fools goodie box giveaway. Email us your t-shirt size and mailing address. For the month of November we re giving away eight goody boxes of music, t-shirts and assorted items to you, our listeners who comment on the shows. Following the tidal wave of a request to get this week’s show podcasted (this one’s for you, Paul!) here is the pre-Halloween “really terrible week” catered-by-the-neighbours Rage Machine in which Spike remembers his dead friend, muses over why “trick or treat night” is on the 30th down his way – despite Halloween being on the 31st – and runs down the categories of ToTers, he talks about the “don’t tase me bro” guy, why Australian TV’s ‘worm’ is a good idea, and why a 100 year old mouldy orange is a rubbish museum exhibit. There’s a brief recap of the last show (which, if you were clever enough and technical enough to decode it, would give you a good ten minutes’ worth of material from last week) before Spike breaks kayfabe and reveals some intimately personal details and has one of his regular and well-worn crisis of confidence. But he’s happy that local blogger The Film Geek asked him to guest review the movie “Michael Clayton”. On the show tonight, why Sean “insanity” Hannity is a better broadcaster than Spike; the cost of the Iraq war, what the cost to translate to per person and how much more Bush wants; a ‘gnarly’ action by an Australian politician which may cost him the PM-ship; it’s tinfoil hats at the ready as Spike expounds on a report that NASA are burying that is more interested in protecting “Wee Johnny CEO’s bonus” than it is the general population; anther reason for the extremists to hate ‘Harry Potter’; “signatures and circles” and, after a “crunchy gear shift”, why the geek will inherit the votes….
