Quicktime | iPod | Flash I ve been sitting on this footage long enough. When we were on vacation in Istanbul last Winter the majority of our evenings were spent in our cute little hotel room shooting the breeze and enjoying a light (second) dinner of cheese, wine and halvah. Me, my Mom and her BFF Sally together on a grand international adventure (a good deal of which was spent in our cute hotel room enjoying wine, cheese etc). I ve shot and posted family fun before, but sometime between then and now my Mom decided she didn t want to be featured on the blog any more. She never really explained why no matter how many times I asked. I guess it s just too strange to her too personal. For me, it s different. The more personal the better. We didn t take family movies when I was young, so to me capturing these moments is like a special gift. I get to keep them forever, living them again and again as I choose. Granted, I don t re-watch 85% of the videos that I post. But this one? This one falls into that remaining 15%. I ve watched it ten times in the last hour already. It s special to me, and it s mine. Sorry, Mom. I had to do it. I couldn t help it. I think it s just too dear to keep to myself.

Quicktime | Flash | iPod Apparently, it s genetic. My family has a cellular desire to broadcast themselves. My sister s cable access TV show gets streamed on the internet, and I finally got to tune in. It s a gas.Maybe we should do a show together?

Quicktime | iPod The best thing about going through old footage is unearthing a gem you didn t know you had. This is a treat from my family s last visit to Planet Nana down in Miami. My 86 year olf Nana is just too much. She s sweet and sassy and ornery and funny and can at times be bitingly cruel, but damn, that old broad can dance! She also really hates being filmed. She ll pose for photos, but she made it clear early on that she didn t want to be videotaped. It worked out well that half the time I had my camera out she thought it was a cellphone. Actually, she made it clear in 1983 that she hated being recorded. I guess I was a born vlogger: I was one of those annoying kids who carried a cassette recorder everyplace and tried to take interviews of friends and family or record important life events like my first unsupervised New Year s Eve party. It was impossible to get Nana to talk on tape about her life. I should dig that New Year s Eve tape out. Again, a day without Flash! Blip.tv didn t encode yesterday s either. But if they do catch up, here s the link to my blip page where the Flash version will eventually live. I love to think that they re just so swamped with NaVlPoMo videos that they can t keep up! Yay!

Quicktime | Flash | iPod It s September so you know what that means: it s Back-to-School time! Crisp air, cozy sweaters, falling leaves, clean loose leaf paper (200 to a pack) in shiny Trapper Keepers. September is so full of promise and hope for a better tomorrow, almost like New Year s Eve, but with a side helping of academic pressure. Remember little Pixie? Well she s 3 1/2 months old now, practically in college. I felt it was time to give her her first lesson on consumer electronics, starting with Treos and various Apple products (she comes from a Windows family someone has to show her The Way). I swear she says the word iPod . Watch for yourself and see. Her first word is iPod. Her Mom let me know that any random crying episodes (few and far between) that couldn t be solved with milk or a new diaper could likely be solved with a few rounds of Old MacDonald . My own special version of Old MacDonald pretty much knocked her out. Twice: once intentionally, and the other time not so much. It could be that she d rather be asleep than hear me sing, or it may be that Windows is in her blood and she cannot be swayed but it won t stop me from trying.
