Rhonda 3D Drawing Tool

Rhonda 3D Drawing Tool

from Qemic on August 15, 2009
Duration: 0
This text will be replaced Rhonda is a new tool that allows you to draw in 3D space, it is currently undergoing beta testing. I signed up and downloaded my beta .dmg to give it a try, and it s really nice. The tool is really exciting, in the sense that 3D in the future has the potential of having a new hand drawn aesthetic that is hard to achieve when drawing mainly consists of adjusting parameters and corner points. It s hard to come up with something that isn t polished and has that computer made feel. Alot can be said for the beauty of human imperfection. I see this tool among other areas being really interesting in the animation field. I d like to see some of the Awkward style of some British animation cross over into the 3d realm, see if it could work in that format and how would it look? I ve tried the beta using just a keyboard and my Wacom tablet. I d be interested in trying the software in the near future using a touch screen or Cintiq as is shown in the opening video over at the Rhonda website (much better example of the software s capabilities than mine). As for feature hopes, i d home to see the ability to export to all the main 3D softwares Maya, Cinema 4D etc Also perhaps a snapping option to the points of a previously drawn path, the ability to select paths and link to others and some bezier handles for fine adjustments. All in all this is a really cool development, looking forward to seeing the progress and updates of the software. Go check it out and sign-up at RhondaForever.com.

From Below

From Below

from KMOGVIDEO.net on June 04, 2009

Here s another little short abstract film using matchmoving. I recently purchased PFHoe pro as it was developed from the software i used to use Icarus and has a really simply workflow, which doesn t need relearning after not using it for a while. I do however believe that with it s bugs and complexity to use Icarus will have more control in bad footage situations, alot of the time PFHoe pro needs near perfect shots and i had to throw alot of shots away as they didn t track well. I probably prefer .blok to this one, but this one was fun to make, and took less time. Also during making this i stumbled across another video idea that i can t wait to finish, although it doesn t really reflect it i this video, i think i m really improving on my 3d skills and the next video i upload should be entirely 3d made. Keay Design Intro

Keay Design Intro

from KMOGVIDEO.net on June 01, 2009
Duration: 0
I was hired by Keay to an intro for his new web design show on the internet. He found me through the work i did for CSS-Tricks: http://kmogvideo.net/2008/11/18/css-tricks-intro-movie/ and wanted something along the lines of that video from a motion point of view that also fitted along with his companies image. Audio by me too.

Temporary Showreel

Temporary Showreel

from KMOGVIDEO.net on June 01, 2009
Duration: 0
Here s a temporary showreel i put together in Premiere Pro, just a simple compilation of some of the past work i ve done for my presentation at my universities end of year show. I dislike the idea of putting a showreel together because i always think that the video i create after will be something i like and would have wanted it present, so have been putting it off for a while and still even only label this one with temporary The audio choice may seem strange for a showreel but i found it hard finding something that could fit both the darker and lighter side of my videos without seeming too out of place. So i went with Spylacopa s Together We Become Together which i think work s out well. So i ve pretty much finished uni now, it s kind of scary but am kind of excited to begin some projects i ve been wanting to do for a while, one of which is well underway, the website is already looking good for it, all i m gonna say is it s gonna be a two part project with both an audio side and a video side to it and it ll be a bit more literal than some of my past videos and music. I m also well into the development of the new design of this site (i know it hasn t been long since the last) i ve decided to ditch to k2 frame-work and start from scratch and create something that s really form fitted for what i want to do here. This time around there s going to be both a blog for written posts and video posts (the video posts will be quite similar to how they re set up now) it ll all be based on the one wordpress install but there will be multiple feeds if you only want to subscribe to the videos, written and of course both. If you care to see a screenshot of what it ll looking like live online right now click here. I m hoping to get it live soon, but having some troubles with cross browser compatibility, i m releasing this screen shot now as the design is gonna be a little different when it s done but the frame work layout etc.. should stay the same, more soon!

The Thing

The Thing

from KMOGVIDEO.net on April 05, 2009
Duration: 0
Title Sequence for the John Carpenter movie. Still not entirely sure what i think about this video, i ve worked harder on it that anything else i ve ever done, and i do know that it s the best thing that i ve done so far, but i spent so long in and out of love with the project, i can t really look at it much anymore. There s two versions, this is the shorter of the two, this ones a bit more cleaner-cut than the other, and there s a section in the other video that seems a bit out of place (i ll have to get a second opinion). I wanted to encapsulate a very visceral and foreboding image. So i took the tactile approach of renting a HDV camera and shooting some close-ups of various organic matter, taking many photographs of slimy textures to incorporate together into the short. I personally think the still frames below are stronger than the video itself, would really love to hear your thoughts on it, since only three people including myself have seen the final prior to posting now. Thanks to Rupert, for suggesting doing The Thing as this project, and also Chris my tutor for really helping me out with ideas and motivating me, because i got tired with working on it alot. Music by me. Can t wait to make something better. Link to download.

Two Point Zero!

Two Point Zero!

from KMOGVIDEO.net on February 01, 2009
Duration: 0
Well it s been a long time in the waiting (for me at least), but here is the newly redesigned site. I was hoping to launch it along with my latest uni project, but opted into making this silly little teaser for the site instead because i want to spend more time on that project over the next month or so (it s driving me crazy). Anyway, this site isn t in it s final stage of the design as i have a few more things i want to incorporate whenever i have chance, including a toolbar under the video players with digg, del.icio.us, reddit etc buttons. Some people may know that i was planning on releasing this as a free videoblog theme once it was finished, i think that modding K2 isn t the best way for me to do that, i m instead going to start from a different open source theme which is less bloated with options and unused code (it will have some similar aspects as this one but will be a brand new theme in it s own right), i will also post a screencast which will show you how simple it is to post a video with this new theme platform! If you have any feature requests comment them below, contact me, or add me to skype: kmogvideo. Also i would like to thank Chris Coyier for his help with the featured content slider, not only did he create it, but he helped me customize it to dynamically pull my featured posts. I have a quite ambitious year planned ahead regarding these online projects so stay tuned for more. Check out this article i wrote for Moovy.ca on my workflow! p.s. some of the minor posts are temporarily disabled.

.blok

.blok

from KMOGVIDEO.net on September 08, 2008

This little short was contrived whilst i was teaching myself matchmoving. I think i made every mistake that was possible to make whilst creating this, but at least i have the process dialed into my brain now. The softwares i used to make it are blender(3d) and icarus(3d tracker) you can get both of these applications for free although icarus is for non-commercial work only. Basically you take your shot into icarus and you track a number of areas of your footage, find out your camera s focal length and location in 3d space, then you take that information acquired by icarus into blender and your camera s location relative to the objects you filmed are matched and the camera path is already set for you, so then you add your cg elements to the scene and animate them how ever you like. All that s left then is compositing the original footage with the cg footage in After Effects. I m pretty happy with the way that it has turned out, i d probably like it to be a bit longer in retrospect but more than anything i m looking forward to using these techniques in other videos along the line (especially if i get good at blender). P.S in the final shot where it goes blurry to focused back and forth, was all accidental, the camera which was in auto focus at this point got stuck into this weird limbo where it couldn t focus on anything so bobbed back and forth like you see in the clip, i liked what it was doing so kept it in. Check out some of the screenshots of the softwares at work below.   Hope you liked the video!

Blurred (instrumental)

Blurred (instrumental)

from KMOGVIDEO.net on August 20, 2008
Duration: 0
Here s a little instrumental song i wrote, hope to record it properly soon either by myself or as a band, and add a bit more depth and layer to it. This is sort of an experiment in posting this as i can create these videos more often in-between my other video experiments, animation etc i m not sure what sort of response this sort of video will get here, if it s good, then i ll do more  variations like this from time to time, plus play different genres, and if it s not received that well then i ll get the picture and stick to what i ve been doing. I will say though, i do like the colour grading of it.

PLANET TERROR (DVD Menu)

PLANET TERROR (DVD Menu)

from KMOGVIDEO.net on June 19, 2008
Duration: 0
This is the final project of my second year at GCADT/ CSCCI (Digital Video Design/ Interactive and Motion Design). I decided to do a dvd menu for Planet Terror because i m a big fan of the director (Robert Rodriguez) and the Grindhouse revival concept, plus it s my favourite of the two movies. During designing this project i decided to learn how to use Blender 3D (an open source 3d modeling/ animation program) which i used for the text. I also decided to do some rotoscoping of some of the films characters, which is always good fun. Of course, the video makes more sense as on a authored interactive dvd, and i decided not to upload the special features menu at the moment. *UPDATE*- Flash is better quality, iPod added, Quicktime plays much faster.

Bravo TV Channel Ident (maya project)

Bravo TV Channel Ident (maya project)

from ZEMOS98 on July 16, 2007
Duration: 10
Basically we had three options to choose from to do this project. 1. An Abstract Clip 2. A TV Channel Ident 3. A sound Sync piece. I decided to do a TV Channel Ident. Bravo was the channel that i decided to do the ident of (Might be unfamiliar as it's a UK channel), we were allowed to use whatever software we wanted to create it, as long as we use the newly learned Maya As well. The only Maya aspect of my movie is the moving pink-ish background, which was a bunch of polygon balls intermingling in an animation. Apart from that i used After Effects for the rest. Unfortunately i didn't have time for me to record the audio for this project as i did it all in a day, i found the audio in the jingles sounds you get free with a new mac, i think it sounds ok though. At this time uploading, it's not the project's deadline yet, but decided to put it up anyway since i finished it early. Hope you like... Bravo logo is copyright of their corperation

The Persistence Of Memory

The Persistence Of Memory

from kmog on July 15, 2007
Duration: 0
This is the first film project of my three year digital video design course at GCADT. The project was called 'Painting in film' and basically we had to create a movie using final cut pro depicting a painting of our choice. I chose 'The Persistence Of Memory' by Salvador Dali. I decided to base the film on how the painting came to be made, i read that he apparently took drugs with the purpose of painting his hallucinations afterwards. Aswell as filming an editing, i also wrote and recorded the music for it myself too. Hope you enjoy...
