Duration: 4293
Female Demand and Runaway Sun are the musical guests. Audience of One is J.R. Cohen, general manager of the Forbes and NY Times acclaimed lounge/coffee bar The Coffee Groundz. The hour-long show features performances by the bands and in-depth interviews with hosts Dan Workwan and Rosa Guerrero. Female Demand is a duo that takes a different approach to the term band . Their music broadcasts a complex, intricate wave of sound to be received by the ears. Their minimalist style of rock is both ambient and reminiscent of an instrumental Devo. Runaway Sun's debut EP garnered them a Best Blues nomination in the 2009 Houston Press Music Awards and a slot at an official showcase at SXSW playing alongside GRAMMY nominee Diane Birch. The band moonlights as one of Houston's top do-gooders - playing a myriad of local charity events, including Walk Now for Autism and Empty Bowls Houston. Runaway Sun recently released their 10-song LP The Bridge. Live From SugarHill's July episode features solo artist Andrew Karnavas and 60s garage rock legends The Freddie Steady 5. The hour-long program includes short sets by each guest and candid interviews with Rosa Guerrero (KTRU s Mutant Hardcore show) and award-winning record producer, Dan Workman. Community guest and audience of one for Episode VI is Chris Gray, music editor for The Houston Press, a weekly publication with almost 645,000 readers and more than 2 million online hits each month. Live from SugarHill, Episode VI airs on July 2, 2009 at 7p.m. CST. This episode also brings in a new webhost and audio stream partner, OutboundMusic. Andrew Karnavas acoustic melodies are a blend of straightforward chord progressions and slow finger picking that combine elements of blues and folk. The songs are largely introspective, image-driven stories that seek to make listeners examine a man s relationships and his opinions in both pastoral and urban settings. In July 2009, Andrew will release The Bridge, a ten-song Blues Rock and Americana LP from his band Runaway Sun, and this fall, Film Noir, a thirteen-song solo debut with acoustic guitar, cello, piano and violin arrangements. The Freddie Steady 5 is classified as Tex-Pop; a package of jangly, Beatlesque pop with a Texas touch. Texas Music Hall-of-Famer Freddie Krc (rhymes with search) has played drums behind renowned singer/songwriter Jerry Jeff Walker and Roky Erickson; and been in the studio with Carole King, Pink Floyd s Roger Waters, and the Small Faces Ronnie Lane. All along, he has also been out front on his own projects and produces Jenny Wolfe and the Pack. Zenfilm is a nationally recognized film production company and HD post boutique based in Houston, TX.
