Anyone catch the fact that last week was Friday Night Blues and Beer s second anniversary? Me neither. The Beer: Say hello to the Affligem pale ale from the Brouwerij De Smedt out of Belgium. I got a little bit of a messy surprise while barbariously pouring it but she has a wonderful golden colour with a spectacular ice cream float style head that settles down to a one finger soupy frost. The aroma is spicy with tinges of nuts, faint fruits and honey. Going down she is very smooth and crisp with honey malts and faint citrusy bitterness cruising across the palate. I could drink more then one... Contains 7% alcohol and ran me around $3.50 for a 330 ml bottle. Two thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. The Beer:Say hello to Henry Weinhard s Blond Lager brewed in Hood River, Oregon. She pours a light copper with a mild head that decends quickly to a wonderfully thin lace covering up all those bubbles. On the nose you get faint malt and hops with slight florals. Going down she is mildly citrusy bitter and the feel is crisp and clean making it a wonderful beer for a most wonderful day... Damn yeah - contains 5.12% alcohol - two thumbs up but as always get a second opinion. As a sidenote I tried their Hefeweizen last November and was just as pleased.
