Decision Time: Earth's Kyros moment, learn jubilation chants The founders of the non-profit Turtle Island Project believe residents of Earth are facing a Kyros moment because of the abuse of the environment.(scroll down for related links) Kairos' is Greek for occasion' or timing - the art of seizing the moment - a combination of understood context and proper timing. The Turtle Island Project was founded to encourage people to find a renewed respect for the planet, nature, wildlife and fellow humans. From native plants to Indigenous peoples, the world's residents - and especially Americans - are not being good stewards to the planet given to us by God. Steve Gabriel of Colorado Springs talks about his work as a Kairos Prison Ministries volunteer. I interviewed Steve this weekend after we had both completed our annual update volunteer training put on by the Colorado Department of Corrections. Approximately 1,800 people volunteer in the state's prisons, most of them through faith-based programs such as Kairos, but also a good number of volunteers who put on AA meetings in the prisons, which is why I took the training. As Steve explained, the volunteers get at least as much out of the experience as they give.
