RFID Dining: Tsukiji Fish Market. In Search of the Ultimate Sushi Bar.

from Favorites of bulamonto on November 15, 2009

I am interested in how people use phones and cameras to record and share events. I used a Nokia 6212 to retrieve and display a sushi video from an RFID tagged postcard (Bulacard). I am in search of the ultimate sushi bar. Do you have any suggestions?

iPod | 3:17 | To Embed or Email: click above Programming code is just like cooking - sometimes you can guess the right mix and make a copy of something, but other times you need to know the original ingredients. Knowing when and how to tell the difference? Usually you only learn that on the back side, after you give it a try. I am not a big fan of the "fake it til you make it" school. I prefer authenticity and simple truths. Having said that, I also believe we are each free to try anything we want. If you are selling yourself as something you are not though, seller and buyer be aware. Hawaiian word: Maka: raw, fresh Subscribe to Beach Walks with Rox in iTunes. (Please leave us a review too!) iPod | 2:20 | To Embed or Email: click above I am out of town and left my intended footage back on my main hard drive so I found this remnant from last winter! It's got a mood to it I think, and it's dedicated to dog lovers and long shadows everywhere. The sound is minimal - just the sweet romancing rhythms of gentle late afternoon waves. Co-mingled with Lexi's steady breathing, and a reminder from my friend Lola Jones to "breathe for pleasure." I hope we at Beach Walks can cast a shadow of grace on you today. Mahalo for your patience in our absence. Hawaiian word: ho#699;oaka: to cast a shadow Subscribe to Beach Walks with Rox in iTunes. (Please leave us a review too!) Join our online community, The Reef. Like myself, she has visited Hawaii many times and fell in love with the place! She is now making plans to move here. She is a very talented jewelry designer - you can see the Hawaii influence in her work. You can find her on Twitter @yoshikocat. She also does sales, which is easy to understand as she has a way of connecting with people. Hawaiian word: Ne e aku: to move away Subscribe to Beach Walks with Rox in iTunes. Beach Walk 629 - Structure or Flow?

Beach Walk 629 - Structure or Flow?

from RavProductions on May 02, 2008
Duration: 230
Wow what an amazing day, and all because we could not get to the beach this morning! Continuous business interruptions, and it was nearly 2 pm before we could get out. On the way, I was realized how futile it has been to try to schedule a recurring time when we know we can slip away for an hour a day. I wish my life were more even and predictable aka structured many days. And then I became aware of my other attraction to being in the flow, letting life come to me as is. What a contradiction those two felt like for me today! It was also fun running into friend and longtime Beach Walks viewer, Dan Brown. Please welcome and check out our show sponsor, Primo Water. Primo Water is a new, environmentally-friendly water bottled in a natural plastic made from plants, a renewable resource grown on American soil. Lanikai

from RavProductions on April 08, 2008

A short video of a recent family trip to Lanikai Beach in Kailua. It was a grey, wet day, but still beautiful. This trip was the first time Alex (age three) dared to go near the water, and by the end of the day he was wallowing in the surf. In addition to siblings Katie (age ten) and Zac (age five), our friend's son Tyler makes a cameo appearance. Music by Kimo Watanabe: http://www.myspace.com/kimowatanabe

Rainy again today so it was a late run to the beach, as the tide was high and there was a big swell in town! Lots of people out surfing at Flat Island in the distance (wish I were there!) and it was a great segue for a blog post I read this morning from my friend Richard Noll, I am and therefore I can. I mis-remembered the quote in the episode, but heh! That is what show notes are for. And actually, I like both iterations of the thought - I find them both liberating and supportive of trying new things, getting out of the box.Hawaiian word: Nalu: surfJoin us at The Reef

We have made the first RFID real estate brochure. It can be used to advertise a home for sale. We used a Nokia 6131 NFC cell phone to read and send information from the RFID tagged brochure to an Apple iPhone. By touching a link a video file of the island style home was downloaded from YouTube and displayed on the screen.

Buddy started a discussion over on The Reef about the difference between what we think we will become as children and what develops as we actually grow up. Combined with how people seem stuck in. Lots of insights from Susan, Earl, and William, including a mention of Lou Holtz's list of 100 things. He says people don't realize they may not have as much time as they think. from RavProductions on February 13, 2008

One of the things I have not liked about our daily habits is the use of plastic bags to clean up Lexi's poo. Recently I found about and ordered some corn-based bags that are fully biodegradable. The more I learn about plastic bags, the more I see them as a scourge on the planet (one million per minute!!), much like plastic water/juice/soda bottles. Get some facts here on the enormous use of plastic bags and their repercussions.Hawaiian Word: Ke eke ea: plastic bag Pau: finished, doneJoin us at The Reef

W00t! The sun is out! Praise be to the weather. Let's face it: kind words and genuine praise just feel good. It is all too common when talented people take on a type of snobbery, as if they have earned some form of superiority. I much prefer to give my business to people who are competent and friendly, like the people I have recently discovered at J Salon.Hawaiian Word: Ho omaika i: praiseJoin us at The Reef

Beach Walk 582 - Making Mistakes

Beach Walk 582 - Making Mistakes

from RavProductions on February 04, 2008
Duration: 218
I read this article in the Wall Street Journal about certain personalities who always look to blame others, and cannot seemingly admit to making mistakes themselves. Some of you probably have more experience with this than I do, tho I myself used to be quick to blame others too. The article said these no-fault types would often surround themselves with perfectionists, who can apparently take blame more easily in the event that something does not turn out perfectly. As a recovering perfectionist though, I can say that trait made it hard for me to admit fault! After all, I was trying much harder than everyone else, attending to details no one else would see, etc.Bottom line, though is that being able to admit fault when appropriate, can keep things moving quickly and definitely helps me enjoy more, whatever I am doing. I definitely find it gets easier with age; life has a way of being the ultimate finger pointer, and most often says, "Give it up - nobody's perfect, admit your part and let's move on."Hawaiian Word: Hewa: mistakeJoin us at The Reef

Beach Walk #437 - Asking Clients For Help

from RavProductions on May 30, 2007

A call from Alaska (hi Chris!) and talk about re-balancing the client-vendor power relationship. I am not sure if business relationships are different here in Hawaii or if I am different living here in th eland of Aloha, but I find people remarkably friendly, open, and there is a less rigid hierarchy of relationships. I really like it.Meanwhile I learned that my hair dresser had surgery. I would like to help her if I can, even though I'm her client. I am not sure how I feel about asking one of my clients for help; we are the ones in the relationship who usually provide the help! I think it is part of the dismantling of traditional roles, like is happening in so many ways, in large part because of the internet. What do you think?Hawaiian Word: K kua: helpTags: help, clients, alaska, conch, beach, hawaii, lanikai, beachwalks, podcast, walk, roxannedarling, roxanne darling, kaimoku, travel
