Vicky Bui from Round Rock High School (in Round Rock TX) placed 1st in the high school age class of the 2009 Juneteenth Essay Competition, the first one sponsored by the Greater East Austin Youth Association. 46 central Texas students wrote essays in answer to this year's question, "Why should Texans celebrate Juneteenth?"
