In that time the studio has collecting not only layers of paint and charcoal dust, but a overwhelming number of toys and stuffed animals that she uses as inspiration for her large raw paintings and drawings. James Kalm creeps up to catch an unexpected view of the artists Joyce Pesto as she works intensely in the chaotic jumble of her drawing installation. As a longtime member of the Williamsburg art community, Pensato is well known for her heavily worked paintings and drawings. Through her process of addition, erasure, and correction these charcoal drawings attain a quality of tender decay, and embody the evidence of an unrelenting desire to pursue perfection.
