Cooking Young Bamboo Shoots with Joi Ito (score by Ryuichi Sakamoto)
from Boing Boing TV May 20, 2008
Can't see the video? Watch this video now in a browser or download this video now. Boing Boing tv passes the 150th episode mark today, and we're celebrating by cooking up some delicious takenoko (竹の子), young bamboo shoots, with Joi Ito -- and original music by Ryuichi Sakamoto. You may know Joi as a serial entrepreneur, a twittering globetrotter VC, a World of Warcraft junkie, or the CEO of Creative Commons, but he has a more traditional side, too. In this video, Ito welcomes us into his back yard in Japan, where he and his partner Mizuka teach us how to hunt for and prepare this traditional seasonal delicacy from a lush bamboo forest. The episode is accompanied by an original score composed by Grammy, Academy Award, and Golden Globe-winning composer, Ryuichi Sakamoto. The legendary electronic music pioneer is also an outspoken environmental advocate. His recent reforestation initiative, “More Trees,” supports the planting of trees around the world to help offset carbon emissions. To-date, 2 billion trees have been planted mostly through work with country governments including Turkey, Ethiopia and Mexico. Link to English-language PDF with more info on the project. Sakamoto co-founded the seminal synthpop trio Yellow Magic Orchestra, and has scored or contributed to movie soundtracks including The Last Emperor, Babel, and the work of director Pedro Almodóvar. Boing Boing tv thanks him for generously contributing this beautiful, evocative score. After the jump -- Joi Ito's family recipe for yummy takenoko just like mom used to make. Special thanks to the Ito family for sharing their traditions with us.

Seesmic du Jour 146: Conference call vs. dinner
from loiclemeur May 14, 2008
I had the pleasure of spending a morning in Menorca with Joi Ito, John Markoff and Thomas Crampton. We talked about the future of old media in a new media world. I also had the opportunity to speak at TechTalk about the cultural differences that I have noticed as an entrepeneur in moving from Europe to the US.

Oooops.
from MikeyPod July 16, 2007
If you are looking for the interview with Joichi Ito from Creative Commons that I promised for today, I am afraid it is on hold due to a mistake in the recording of the conversation. Rather than launch a sub par show, I decided to redo the interview. Thankfully, Joi was gracious enough to agree to reschedule. In the meantime, how bout a little MikeyPod homework? The documentary Good Copy, Bad Copy is what inspired me to invite Joi to be on the show in the first place. It s only about an hour long, and provides a great backdrop for a conversation about Creative Commons. You can download it (legally) from the site linked above. Here s the trailer: Technorati Tags: creative commons, joi ito, mikeypod, podcasting

First MX TV video
from Joi Ito's Web April 29, 2006
I've just uploaded the 50 min special produced by Digital Garage and directed by Hiroyuki Nakano for MX TV (and the Net.) All of the content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License. It is a 308 MB MOV file / iPod Video file. This 50 min show is a warmup for a weekly 30 min live show that I will be doing from July. The master is in HD format and I'll upload it at some point. This show is about Creative Commons and has lots of scenes of me just talking about stuff. It includes a walk-through of my house and is Joi-centric. Sorry. ;-P It's also in Japanese. We're going to possibly make and English sub-titled version. If anyone wants to help, let me know. Since it is CC-BY, feel free to chop it up and do whatever. Hiroyuki Nakano is a well know director famous for doing the DEEELITE music videos, Samurai Fiction and many other amazing video pieces and it was a huge pleasure to work with him and also watch him get switched on to CC. We tried to figure out the best way to do attribution in video. Thoughts on the icons and format would also be greatly appreciated. It will air on MX TV 29.April 2006 2100~2155. UPDATE: If anyone decides to edit it, can you replace the credits at the end with: Produced by Digital Garage Peacedeliced by Hiroyuki Nakano Directed by Shuichi Fujiyasu I'm going to fix it in the next version, but I'm leaving the current one up there until I do.
