In 2003 people on the Westside watched as 10s of thousands of Kelowna residents were forced to flee what was referred to as the Kelowna Firestorm. Hundreds of homes were destroyed as the fire raged on day after day in the late summer heat. July 18, 2009 it was Glenrosa, West Kelowna that faced of with the ravages of a fire storm. All ready the fire has consumed more than 400 hectare and continues to grow, being fanned by up 40 kilometer wind gusts. And now there are reports of multiple fires erupting.

The night of no sleep!! The fires burning around Kelowna gain in intensity, coming over the crest of a mountain the flames are clearly viewable from Kelowna. Homes have been destroyed. People are fleeing to emergency shelters.

Hummingbirds are starting to arrive at Christina Lake, BC after wintering in Central America and the Caribbean. An amazing migration for such small birds. Today it was cold, cloudy with some rain in Christina Lake, not ideal conditions for the birds or filming. I love watching these little birds. Video was filmed April 28, 2009. Third stop April 27 was at Kelowna airport after I saw one of the snowbirds coming in. Soon there were 11 of them there, they were returning from Comox to Cold Lake Alberta, I got about 45 minutes of video. Just another day. April 27 journey of discovery continues. A coyote basking in the sun and a quail up close. I think animals have a sense for danger, I am not a threat so the quail let me get about 5 feet from it.
