Julia & Jake: Julia can Edit!

from Vimeo / Jakob Lodwick's videos on October 28, 2007

So Jake says to me the other day: "Let me teach you how to edit videos!" and I go, "Um. I know how to edit. I was in the Amateur Video club in high school. I just choose not to, because it SUCKS WHOLE DAYS OF MY LIFE AWAY FROM ME." I'm not the best editor, obviously, but it certainly is fun to be creative, even if it takes three hours on a Sunday (especially when the alternative is to pack for a move.) Tell me what you think!!! PS. I am in no way joking about the AV club. As an aside, I was also on Stage Crew, and a Props Mistress for Mame, and Vice President of the Global Exchange Club. And on the debate team and in the Latin club (I wish I were kidding) and on the Synchronized Swimming team. AND I was President of the Animal Protection Club. And of course, the school paper. And I had my own radio show. YES, I was a geek, no doubt about it. Cast: Julia Allison, Jakob Lodwick

Jakob and Marshmallow sleep next to each other

Jakob and Marshmallow sleep next to each other

Jakob, truth be told, doesn't really care for Marshmallow. Which is both sad and odd and depressing and upsetting to me, but that's not really the point here. The point is, I came across this scene a few nights ago, and I thought, "is there hope for a truce?" (Actually, Marshmallow loves J. So ... it's a one-way war!) Cast: Julia Allison, Jakob Lodwick

I don't know if all dogs do this, but I discovered when Lilly/Marshmallow was quite young that if she even hears the sound of running water, she'll start doggie-paddling. It's freaking hilarious. Cast: Julia Allison

I did rehearsals all last week for the new Fox Business channel, but here's the first officially aired segment, on Happy Hour, which takes place (creatively, in my opinion) at the Bull ) (I don't drink at all) Cast: Julia Allison

New Apartment. 2nd Thoughts.

New Apartment. 2nd Thoughts.

from Vimeo / Julia Allison's uploaded videos on October 17, 2007

I passed the 7 person board to get my brand-new apartment today. Except the funny thing is, it seems to have SHRUNK in the time since I applied four weeks ago. Sigh. I'm totally overwhelmed, of course, and completely freaked out that I made the wrong decision. It's so expensive ($2550) and it's on 53rd and 9th Avenue, which is ... um ... really far away from ... people. Not to mention that I HAVE NO FURNITURE and I have to be out of my current place by Sunday. Kill me now. Cast: Julia Allison

Tonight at a Soho book party, Eddie, who works with Matt Titus, my segment partner on Fox's Mike & Juliet show (and so hears about my romantic travails on a regular basis), did an impression of Jakob. Whom he has never met. I thought it was pretty funny. :) Cast: Julia Allison, Jakob Lodwick

My Parents are Ridiculously Cute

My Parents are Ridiculously Cute

Honestly, I must have done something VERY, VERY right in my last life to deserve the parents I have. They're not perfect, but they're just about as good as it gets. Not to mention the fact that they've provided me with an unbelievable role model of a resolutely equitable and loving relationship. Married for 29 years, they have such an incredible amount of love, and perhaps even more importantly, RESPECT for one another, it boggles the mind. They really are extraordinarily happy - and you can tell. I'm so glad I could capture this on video. I will play it at their 50th wedding anniversary. Cast: Julia Allison

Jakob & Ricky (and a little Julia) Discuss Men's Fashion

Jakob & Ricky (and a little Julia) Discuss Men's Fashion

We were sitting around Jake's office at Vimeo, and I asked Ricky how J's abysmal lack of style first began ... Apparently I missed the worst of it. Whew times 10. At one point, not on camera, I told J that his shirt (seen in the video) "made me want to vomit." It was perhaps a bit too harsh, but he's shown remarkable ability to improve lately, and this was no exception. He agreed that it wasn't the most flattering cotton based product he could wear, and he seemed eager to go beyond. But how? I guess it seems that the Edu-ma-cation of Mr. Lodwick's style falls to me, and the bevy of style experts I have at my disposal (one of the perks of my job). So we're going to film it! "Jake Learns How to Dress Himself" will be a multi-part series, as we follow J from a raggedy hipster-esque boy wearing (in his own words) "rat clothes" to a, um ... stylish, confidant, rico-suave business man. (okay, maybe not the "rico-suave" part. but the rest) GQ, watch out. PS. NONE of this, except the teeshirt critique, came from me. I didn't suggest he dress differently, I just nodded in agreement when he said he wanted to ... if he decided to continue to dress the way he does now, I wouldn't put up a fight (not worth it). That said, if I never saw the teeshirt he's wearing now again, I would do a small dance of glee. Cast: Julia Allison, Ricky Van Veen and Jakob Lodwick

Lip Dub: Birdhouse in Your Soul

Lip Dub: Birdhouse in Your Soul

from Vimeo / Julia Allison's uploaded videos on October 08, 2007
Duration: 0
I haven't done a lip dub in a while, but I had my iPod on shuffle today and I heard Birdhouse in Your Soul (They Might Be Giants - so old school!) I remembered all the lyrics instantly, so I had to dub it. Hmm ... how weird is it that you can remember lyrics from 7th grade, and yet forget the name of the doorman in the building you've lived in for two years? umm ... I mean ... Theoretically. Okay, so my self-critique? I could dance a little less. Or jiggle a little less. I'm more jiggling than dancing, anyway. PS. Aren't these lyrics TRIPPY?? Like, were they on crack when they wrote this? "I'm your only friend/ I'm not your only friend / But I'm a little glowing friend / but really I'm not actually your friend / But I am." WTF?!? IT MAKES NO SENSE. PPS. In case you're wondering if Lilly/Marshmallow enjoys being a party to these videos, the answer is, she keeps begging me to let her lip dub Warren G's "Regulate." So, yes. CNN's Showbiz Tonight: George Clooney!

CNN's Showbiz Tonight: George Clooney!

from Vimeo / Julia Allison's uploaded videos on September 26, 2007

I do not, as a rule, have crushes on television actors or movie stars. I tend to go for brainy nerds. However, I will admit to the following exceptions: Zach Braff (although when I actually hung out with him, that QUICKLY changed. He is no good, times 100), Topher Grace (also heard not so great things about his personality, although I can't personally vouch for that), Jon Stewart (but he's married), and ... yes, George Clooney. I was trying to figure out a way to work "George, call me!" into my commentary, but then I decided that might scream "DESPERATE!" and, well, I'm pretty sure the CNN producers aren't enthusiastic about being used as my own personal matchmaker. Alas. PS. I do not like my hair like this on air. It looks ... I don't know. A little unprofessional. AND I AM NOTHING IF NOT A PROFESSIONAL, DAMNIT! Cast: Julia Allison

What I Did Today: CNN

What I Did Today: CNN

from Vimeo / Julia Allison's uploaded videos on September 23, 2007

This was right before my segment on CNN this morning. I was on remote in the NY bureau at the Time Warner Center (the host was in DC and the other guests were in Chicago). I had to listen to the IFB in my ear, and the show was about to start, so I was paying attention to that ... Cast: Julia Allison, Jakob Lodwick

Tequila Shots for Breakfast! Yum!

Tequila Shots for Breakfast! Yum!

from Vimeo / Julia Allison's uploaded videos on September 02, 2007

We were at breakfast and I thought that after I ordered pancakes and eggs, it would be funny to ask for two tequila shots. I was, obviously, joking. It was 10:48 am on a Sunday morning!! Of course I didn't really want two tequila shots. Jakob, on the other hand, thought it was a marvelous idea, most likely because the average person would never do that. The waitress thought we were crazy. I thought it was hysterical. Jakob was thinking about buying curtains at Home Depot directly thereafter. It was a great morning. Cast: Julia Allison, Jakob Lodwick

Splish Splash, Lilly Takes a Bath

Splish Splash, Lilly Takes a Bath

from Vimeo / Julia Allison's uploaded videos on August 31, 2007

I wanted to do a video of Lilly getting a bath, because she's so freaking funny looking when she's wet. If I did it over, I would have just run the camera, then increased the speed so it played super fast (what's that called, technically? Double speed?) ... I might try that for next time, or whenever I finally get Final Cut Pro, because I cannot STAND editing in iMovie. It manages to be both simplistic AND tedious, which is truly an accomplishment. Of some sort. IN any case, my favorite part about this particular movie is the Crazy 8s. To explain - after every bath when Lilly's dried off, she runs in circles (technically, figure 8s) like she's lost her mind. I'm not exactly sure WHY she does this - maybe it feels so good to be clean?? but it's HYSTERICAL, and definitely worth watching (1:03, if you're wondering). Cast: Julia Allison
