Trying out the citizen journalism thing. While in Vancouver, I saw a HUGE line to get into H&M's grand opening (they're a clothing store). Half a block away, I saw homeless people who probably needed the money about to be spent by the people in line.I've been reading about social justice and christianity lately, so I was really struck by the irony here... people spending extra money on clothes they really didn't need, waiting for an hour or so in line... while not 50 feet away were people who needed food and actually DID need clothing.Anyone see the irony here?

robotic installation::collaboration with benjamin chang, silvia ruzanka::2003-present The (In)Security Camera is a robotic surveillance camera with advanced computer-vision software that can track, zoom, and follow subjects walking through its field of view. Deploying sophisticated artificial intelligence algorithms in use today by the U.S. military and Homeland Security forces, it can assess threat levels in real time and respond accordingly. However, the camera is, in fact, a little insecure. Easily startled by sudden movements, it is shy around strangers and tends to avoid direct eye contact. This reversal of the relationship between the surveillance system and its subjects gives the machine an element of human personality and fallibility that is by turns endearing, tragic, and slightly disturbing.

perfomance::vocal::2003-present This performance piece is an ironic take on the common perceptions of "East" and "West". The artist chants top 10 asian brands (as listed by www.brandingasia.com.) The very idea of simple opposition of cultural "East" and "West" (often framed as higher spirituality vs. material prosperity) is called into question. Chanting, interspersed with occasional "a la Tuva" throat singing, is used to evoke an idea of "Eastern" spirituality, while the content, quite materialistic and "Western" undermines the method of delivery (and points to current economic conditions.) The German Helmet Irony My latest creation came about after I saw a German Helmet emblazoned with the St. Georges Cross. I thought how ironic, I must buy it and make something of it. This was the result. The character is based upon my image of a typical moronic thug who ironically calls himself a football fan. However please watch and listen to the introduction it is really important. I do not mean to offend anybody here except for the mindless morons that spoil the game of football for the rest of us.
